The original Tensei line of golf shafts from Mitsubishi was one of the most successful shaft lines in recent memory. The AV Raw series looks to extend that dominance and has quickly gained traction on professional tours. The Tensei AV Raw Orange golf shaft is the counterbalanced Tensei offering designed for medium to low launch and low spin. This review will take you through the differences between the all-new Tensei AV Raw Orange shaft and the original Tensei Pro as well as outline who this shaft is best for.
Key Features
- The Tensei AV Raw Orange is a mid launch, low spin shaft.
- The Tensei AV Raw Orange is counterbalanced and excellent for golfers wanting to experiment with a new feel, different lengths, or different club head weights.
- The AV or Aluminum Vapor adds to the stability of the Tensei Raw Orange without adding bulk or degrading the feel of the shaft.
Who Should Buy The Mitsubishi Tensei AV Raw Orange Shaft?
The Tensei AV Raw Orange shaft is distinct in its counterbalance build. The balance point of the golf shaft being placed more near the handle enables club builders to place more weight in the club head and give players the option for more club head speed, more distance, and more forgiveness. Golfers that are looking to maximize distance from the tee box or that prefer an overall heavier club build will love the Tensei AV Raw Orange.

Design and Technology
The original Tensei Pro Orange shaft was gamed by Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, among others. Its success was well established but fell short on delivering a smooth enough feel to make it suitable for many golfers. The new Tensei AV Raw Orange has taken the performance advantages of the original Pro Orange and improved the feel with the Aluminum Vapor handle section. By leaving the AV exposed, or raw, Mitsubishi was able to reduce bulk in the Tensei shaft line and retain the feel golfers love. The butt end of the shaft is a visual cue to the newest tech and a nod to the continued innovation of Mitsubishi’s Material Difference.
Specs
The Tensei AV Raw Orange shaft comes in 4 weight categories: 55, 65, 75, and 85 grams. Regular, stiff, extra-stiff, and tour extra-stiff options are available in select weights. Tensei AV Raw Orange shafts feature either a mid or high kickpoint depending on your selected weight and flex.
Our Experience
I loved the original Tensei Pro Orange. I gamed it for the better part of 2 years so I was excited to see what, if anything, Mitsubishi could improve. For me, the change is subtle but impactful. The new AV Raw Orange shaft does feel better and provides a smoother sensation when compared head-to-head the original Pro Orange. The performance was still there, and this profile continues to be my favorite counterbalanced golf shaft. For players that prefer a heavier club head or who want to add mass at impact I still believe this is the best way to go.

- The counterbalanced nature of the AV Raw Orange gives players and club builders more options to dial in a golfer’s maximum performance.
- The Tensei AV Raw is one of the best distance producing shafts we have tested.
- Golfers will have to add weight to their club heads if they want to switch into the Tensei AV Raw Orange and maintain the same swingweight if coming from a shaft with a lower balance point.
- Golfers who have the original Tensei Pro Orange and enjoy the feel may not see a big enough performance boost to demand an upgrade.
- The Tensei AV Raw Orange will only be available in advanced fitting centers and select retail locations.
