Avian Irons Detailed Review
Design and Technology
The Avian 335 iron set is a muscle back blade that takes inspiration from the timeless nature of golf but packs a modern punch. The 335 features smooth lines, a reinforced hitting area for more distance and shot making, and CNC milling on the face and back for unmatched quality control. The 335 is for the better player or golf enthusiast looking to create shots from everywhere on the golf course.
The Avian 535 iron set is a muscle cavity back iron that uses perimeter weighting and a larger sole chamber to give players more forgiveness and higher ball speeds. The 535 iron is perfect for players that want to hit a range of shapes and trajectories but want some added protection when they misstrikes their golf shots. The 535 is an exceptional long iron replacement for better players as well. Similar to the 335 iron, the 535 muscle cavity is crafted with a CNC milled face, grooves, and back to ensure quality and consistency.
The Avian 735 iron feature the most perimeter weighting within the Avian family. The 735 is distance packed and comes with a profile that inspires confidence without being gaudy. CNC milled and made from S25C carbon steel, the 735 is going to feel soft yet deliver more explosive distances than the 335 and 535 irons. Players looking to make golf as easy as possible will love the classic looks of the 735 with the hidden performance boost.
Our Experience
The look and feel of an iron are highly subjective. For me, I want to look at very little offset, a thin topline, and a relatively small blade length. The 335 is one of the best looking and feeling irons I have felt and would put it right up there with anything from Mizuno or Titleist in the classic iron looks and feel categories. The performance of the 335 is what stood out most. The 335 delivered more ball speed, longer distances, and more height than my TaylorMade 730 irons at the exact same loft (34°). Importantly, not only was the 335 longer, it held a tighter distance dispersion front to back, a testament to the distance control achieved by the emphasis on consistency in build from the Avian team.
Going beyond just the 335 iron set itself, Avian also put us through their remote fitting protocol. I measured myself and got my 335 iron built exactly to my unique biomechanical profile. Importantly, this remote fitting is easy to do and takes less than 5 minutes. While I would always content that going and hitting a club in person with a professional fitter is the best way to get your clubs fit, a service available at Avian as well, the remote fitting options is far and away better than just buying your clubs off the shelves. Through our entire experience, the Avian team has been hands on and offered to help us in any way possible to ensure that their clubs performed at their absolute best and we could play better golf as a result.
