Taylormade TP Mullen Putter Detailed Review

Design and Technology

When Taylormade tour reps began talking with the best in the world about what they were looking for in a putter, there were a couple of themes that kept coming up. First, players complained that many modern head designs were too sophisticated. Second, many players prefer to release the putter through impact but also like the forgiveness and stability of mallet head designs traditionally made for square-to-square strokes. Armed with this knowledge, Taylormade went to work addressing both issues and the end result was the TP Mullen line of putters.

Pure Roll insert technology was first introduced in the Taylormade Spider putter and was met with rave reviews. That technology has been improved in the TP Mullen line and is scientifically proven to reduce the skid effect with 45-degree downward-facing grooves that get the ball on the ground quickly. Made of 6061 aluminum, the insert provides a softer feel than other stainless steel putters without sacrificing the solid sound that lets a player know they have struck a putt well.

TaylorMade TP Mullen Putter

Each of the six TP Mullen head designs have both mallet and blade head features. Toe hang is a feature typical of blade putters that is most suitable for players with an arcing stroke. Mallet heads tend to be face balanced, more forgiving and preferred by players with straighter strokes. By bringing together the characteristics of both mallet and blade designs, players with arcing strokes are still able to release the putter through impact while also taking advantage of the easy alignment and forgiving features of a mallet.
