Their story begins in a small town in West Texas.  Fashion wasn’t much more than an afterthought in this town that survived on oil and whose residents were of the Roughneck cloth.  While the family behind the brand always prioritized dressing well, trends grew stagnant. Fast forward to a couple of geology degrees and solid oil jobs years later, Bert Brunner decided to take a chance.  He earned another formal education in Design and Devereux Fine Threads came to life. The company is named after the co-founding brothers’ grandmother, Devereux Brunner, who was a passionate Texan and happened to love the game of golf.

This year at Golfer’s Authority, we’re going to put an emphasis on the Little Guys.  Whether it be custom clubs made out of a small shop in Seattle, or a niche golf towel company, we get more than a little excited about smaller, lesser-known companies.

Why?  Because there’s almost always a story behind the brand.  More times than not, these brands are born out of passion, blood, sweat, and tears.  And they’re trendy.  And they’re inclusive, not exclusive.  And even more, they’re all about community.

That’s why we’re focusing this review on Devereux Fine Threads.

A Little More About Devereux Fine Threads

Devereux Brunner was about much more than just golf, however.  She was small in stature, but tough as nails – a true, hardened Texan.  But beneath her weathered exterior was a gentle soul that cared deeply for her community.

Community.  That’s what’s at the core of the Devereux brand.

The company motto is “Play More, Complain Less”.  Devereux embodies this mantra both on and off the course.  While they readily acknowledge the challenges we’ve all faced the last couple years, they take the bad in stride and remain ardently positive.

It shows in everything they make – towels, polos, hats, jackets, lifestyle wear, the list goes on.

The Goods

I’ve known the guys at Devereux for a while and have been fortunate to get my paws on some of their gear.  It’s some of the best-made, most comfortable stuff I’ve ever worn.

Polos

It wasn’t that long ago that my wife and I both decided we needed to clean out our respective closets.  We just had way too damn many clothes.

While the purging process was healthy, I noticed just how dated a lot of my golf clothes were.  Pleated Dockers, baggy polos with sleeves so big they made me look like I had alligator arms, just a lot of stuff I’d never wear again.

Fortunately, I’d just received some fresh polos from my friends at Devereux.  Included in the lot were the Big Palm, Poppies, and Turbulence polos to name a few.

I donned the Poppies Polo the next day for my weekly game with my buddies.  It was hot out, and I was worried about ending up with sweat stains on my new favorite shirt.

Eighteen holes later I was a little warm (because of the temperature), but all my worries alleviated.  This Polo is made from 98% polyester and 8% spandex.  The material wicks away moisture and breathes fantastically.

And talk about comfort!  This polo is lightweight and does anything but limit your range of motion.  If there’s such a thing as being wrapped in a cloud, the Devereux Poppie’s Polo is it.

The same rings true with the rest of their polos.  Trust me.

Sizes range from small to XXL.

Pants

In all our product testing and research at Golfer’s Authority, we’ve learned a good bit about what modern golfers want both on and off the course.

That’s why I couldn’t wait to check out the pants collection from Devereux Fine Threads.

The Gravity Active Pants turned out to be some of the most comfortable I’ve ever worn on the course.  The color story for these pants is right up my alley too.  They come in soft tones of Tidal, Khaki, and Graphite.  Stylistically, these pants are understated in terms of flash, but smart and comfortable in the same breath.

The second batch of pants I received were meant to be worn wherever you go.  We’re talking about the Oasis Active Joggers and Flight Pants.  I’ve worn these pants to work, the gym, and the course.

They’re perfect for any setting, not to mention comfortable beyond belief.

The Active Joggers come in sizes ranging from small to XXL.  They’re made of 12% spandex and 88% polyester.  This enables four-way stretch that’s more than comfortable, no matter what you’re doing.

Color choices for these pants are Turbulent Gray, Matte Green, and Deep Blue.

Hats

The last items on the list during my closet cleanout were hats.  And boy, did I have a lot of them.  I’m a hat guy, I can’t help it.  A lot of them I still hang onto for nothing more than sentimental value.

But a lot of them (most of them) were just vanilla caps from one manufacturer or another.  I was more than happy to put some new lids in the collection.  And there was not better choice than Devereux.

Their collection features everything from traditional golf hats, to beanies, to trucker hats, to street-style caps with cool designs.

While there wasn’t a single hat I didn’t like, I was partial to the Script Visor.  I’ve always been a fan of the retro look and this visor is no exception.

In fact, I’m about due for a new one.

Towels

A quality golf towel is part of any respectable golfer’s arsenal.  And I’ve yet to come across many cooler towels than those made by the guys at Devereux.

My personal favorites are the “Frosty Breakfast Balls” and “Arizona License Plate” towels.

There are plenty of others to choose from, so have a gander for yourself.

More Collections

Pacific Golf Highway Collection

As a native of the West Coast, I was particularly drawn to this collection of shirts, outerwear, and accessories that were inspired by the hallowed grounds of the Monterey Peninsula.  Truly a life-style line, this stuff can be worn anywhere you go.

G*OLF

This collection stems from a favorite family joke that golf got its name because all the other four-letter words were taken.

Herein you can find casual wear, socks, stickers, and hats.  All are well-designed and sure to be eye-catching.

Direct-to-Consumer

Unlike a lot of the major soft goods companies you’re probably used to, Devereux Fine Threads ships direct to you.  That means they’re able to keep prices affordable and you know you’re getting products directly from the source.  In fact, you’re part of the Devereux community.

Conclusion

In just a few short years, Devereux’s success has been meteoric.  It’s not hard to see why.  The Brunner brothers are passionate about golf and leave their mark on every single thing they make.

If you haven’t already, I encourage you to check out their website and products.

And should you find yourself in the Phoenix area, there’s a good chance you can catch the founders looking for a game somewhere near the first tee.
