Who Should Buy the BombTech 3.0 Black Irons?
BombTech doesn’t get the credit it deserves as a quality club manufacturer. Maybe that’s because their clubs aren’t aimed at the best players in the world. Most certainly it has to do with the fact that the company doesn’t spend millions on marketing campaigns like all the other OEMs. They don’t have to; their clubs sell themselves.
That’s certainly been the case with the 3.0 Black Irons. They’re meant for mid to high handicappers that want more forgiveness and distance out of their irons.
If you’re in the small minority of scratch players looking for control and precision, these irons might not be the best choice. But if you’re like most of us that could benefit from every technological advantage we can find, the BombTech 3.0 Black Irons are sure to exceed expectations.
BombTech 3.0 Black Irons Detailed Review
Design and Technology
There wasn’t any shortage of thought that went into the design of the BombTech 3.0 Black Irons.
It starts with the head design that features an undercut cavity. While a lot of manufacturers are putting this feature in their irons, BombTech really got it right. The result has proven to be extremely high MOI and one of the most forgiving irons in the game. Sure, solid shots feel great. But it’s the mishits where you’ll really notice the difference.
The clubfaces themselves are revolutionary in the 3.0 Black Irons too. They aren’t supported by anything behind them. This increases COR, a key measurement that’s indicative of golf ball speed and distance. If you start hitting these irons farther than any you’ve ever hit before, don’t be surprised.
The sweet spot is also larger than previous models. We’re talking about more forgiveness even yet.
Lastly, the sole of the 3.0 Black Irons is strategically designed to improve turf interaction no matter what kind of conditions you’re playing in. Fat and thin shots are much less drastic with these clubs.
Specs
The 3.0 Black Irons are a degree stronger than most irons. Couple with the fact that they’re .125” longer, and you’ve got a recipe for more clubhead speed and added distance.
The set comes four-iron through pitching wedge and each clubhead is made of 431 stainless steel.
Stepless steel shafts come in regular and stiff flex.
Our Experience
BombTech has been on my radar for a while. I’d always heard positive things about the company’s equipment, but hadn’t much experience with it until I heard about the 3.0 Black Irons.
The first time I hit these irons, I could tell there was something different about them.
The first difference I noticed was that they’re a little longer than the standard-length clubs I have. Even though the added length took some getting used to, the added distance it gave me was more than apparent.
The 3.0 Black Irons are also forgiving beyond belief too. As someone that tends to miss shots off the toe and come up short, my mishits with these irons proved much less penal.
From an aesthetic standpoint, these irons are sleek. While the clubheads are big, they aren’t bulky. And I really liked the black gunmetal finish. It’s contrast behind the golf ball gave me the confidence I needed to hit solid shots.
Conclusion
It should come as no surprise that BombTech continues to garner a trusted reputation more and more every year. Their equipment speaks for itself, and that’s why golfers are putting it their bag.
The 3.0 Black Irons are new and only serve to further BombTech’s growing reputation.
For golfers looking for a long, forgiving set of irons at a price you can afford, give the BombTech 3.0 Black Irons a hard look. Chances are you’ll like what you find.
