While it would be valuable for any golfers to get more help on the greens, the DF 2.1 promises to be especially valuable for players that have yet to find the success they desire on the putting surface. Amateur players that simply want to enjoy their rounds and give themselves a chance to hole more putts should seriously consider moving towards the DF 2.1 putter. Golfers that do not have the time or simply don’t want to hit hundreds of putts per week can absolutely benefit from the simplicity of the DF 2.1 design and the proprietary Press Grip. Golfers should take note, as the DF 2.1 is different, but players that are unhappy with their current putting set up will need different. Performance results with the DF 2.1 speak for themselves and if performance is your main goal, the DF 2.1 is the best we’ve seen straight out of the box.

L.A.B. Directed Force 2.1 Putter Review

Description

One of the most unique pieces of golf equipment in recent memory may be the Directed Force 2.1 or DF 2.1 putter from L.A.B. Golf. The DF 2.1 is a Lie Angle Balanced, fully symmetrical putter designed to take the torque out of putting and enable you to make a more effortless putting stroke. A putter with less torque allows golfers to square the club more easily and return the club to its starting spot, the result is often a putter with a square face at impact time-after-time. More consistency at impact means more putts going in, fewer three putts, and no more nerves standing over your golf ball.

Key Features

  • L.A.B. stands for Lie Angle Balanced and creates a putter that will be fit to every golfer to create more consistency in their putting stroke.
  • The DF 2.1 putter is symmetrical in design and eliminates torque that can cause golfer to miss putts due to inconsistencies with their putting motion or putter type.
  • The DF 2.1 comes stock with the Press Grip that is designed to help golfers position their hands directly over the golf ball at address for a naturally improved setup.

L.A.B. DF 2.1 Detailed Review

Design and Technology

The Lie Angle Balanced fit and symmetrical shape of the DF 2.1 allows players to received personalized performance. Golfers can use the remote fitting instructions to get a DF 2.1 built specifically for their stroke. The torque-free design of the DF 2.1 may enable golfers to return their club face square more often for improved consistency. As an added bonus, the Press Grip will encourage golfers to place their hands in a more functional position to start their golf ball online and control their speed.

Our Experience

Right out the box the DF 2.1 makes an impression. For some that impression will be great, others will think the shape is too bold or simply ugly. In either case, players willing to go beyond their initial impression will likely have success on the greens waiting for them. The DF 2.1 is unlike any putter I have ever tried. The symmetrical design does exactly what it says it will do: The lack of torque makes the putter head feel light, although it is just as heavy as other mallet options, and the DF 2.1 is incredibly stable. Mishits routinely snuck more near the hole and reduced the overall proximity to the hole over any other putter tested. As always, these results will depend on your putting stroke but for me, the DF 2.1 is going straight into the bag.

The true genius behind the collection of parts of the DF 2.1 is how simple it is to use. Simply set up to the golf ball, point and shoot. As a player that still fully expects to hole putts when I play but does not get the time to practice putting much anymore, the DF 2.1 seems to be the way to better scores right now. If performance matters above all else, it will be difficult to find something that outpaces the DF 2.1 in my opinion.

PROS
  • The DF 2.1 uses the Lie Angle Balance system and symmetric design to give players less inconsistencies in their stroke and more club face control.
  • The Press Grip on the DF 2.1 does a great job of helping players get their hands in a better putting position at address to encourage a more efficient putting stroke.
  • The large shape of the DF 2.1 is confidence inspiring and the reduction of torque makes it easier to control your strike point even on long distance putts.
CONS
  • The bold shape and center-shafted hosel of the L.A.B. DF 2.1 putter may be distracting for some players and will likely lead them to another option.
  • DF 2.1 putters can be difficult to locate in many retail locations or pro shops and trying one before your buy will be difficult in certain areas.
  • The potential performance benefits of the DF 2.1 may not be enough to justify the premium price tag for recreational and budget-conscious golfers.

Conclusion

The scoring section of a golf bag, that being wedges and putters, is a highly emotional area for golfers. Players like the look and feels associated with things they have had previous success with. The DF 2.1 putter from L.A.B. Golf is nothing like you have ever tried before because there is nothing like it. Inspired by the idea that putting should be easier and the club should not fight the golfer for the duration of their stroke, the DF 2.1 putter stand alone as the easiest putter to use we have ever tried. If you are a golfer that spends hours per week practicing your putting, you may not have the need to look for a change. However, if you are like most of us and would just like to hole a few more putts every time you hit the golf course and make this game easier, the DF 2.1 is an absolute must try.

How Does the DF2.1 Putter Compare?

L.A.B. B.2 Putter

The B.2 putter from L.A.B. Golf is a more subtle take on their innovative technology. Lie Angle Balanced and symmetrical in design, the B.2 is the ultimate player’s forgiveness blade. More traditional looks with a performance package of a much larger putter, the B.2 will appeal to players looking to improve their short game without deviating too far from traditional appearances.
