Q: What Degree is a Sand Wedge?

A: Sand wedges are specialized wedges and are typically marked with their lofts on the clubhead. Most common models range between 54 and 56 degrees. But there can be sand wedge with higher lofts from 54 to 58 degrees and even higher from 54 degrees to 60 degrees. Sand wedge help you to get the ball much easier over the sand traps and bunkers and they gain up to 100 yards distance. Great variety of shots with these wedges like approach shots and bunker shots. The leading edge of the sand wedge is higher for better interaction with the turf.

In the past sand wedge had the highest loft now it is the lob wedge. Lob wedge has similar use as the sand wedge and similar position of the leading edge. Lob wedge is great for chip shots, control around the green, bunker shots and approach shots. Lob wedge is also known as 60 degree wedge but there can be wedges with higher lofts options as 64 degrees and 65 degrees. Tour players often use 60 degree lob wedge.

Q: What Is a Gap Wedge?

A: Gap wedges help golfers use their standard swings and achieve proper distance gaps. Gap wedge complete the gap between the pitching and sand wedge.
