When it comes to distance measuring devices in the game of golf, there are literally dozens of different brands to choose from, but it’s a select few that have garnered the reputation as top-tier. 

One of those brands is Shot Scope. 

Ever since its founding, the company has not only continued to advance the technology and features that go into rangefinders, it’s stayed well ahead of the curve.  And the all-new Shot Scope PRO LX+ Second Generation Rangefinder with GPS is the latest example. 

It’s the subject of today’s review, which I’m really excited about.  So, strap in for a few minutes because I’m going to tell you about all the tech and features that make this rangefinder one of the best in the game.

Who Should Buy the Shot Scope PRO LX+ Second Generation Rangefinder with GPS?

If you’re a casual golfer that only plays a few times a year, or are just starting out and haven’t dialed in all your clubs yet, there are plenty of affordable rangefinders out there that are going to give you the basic yardage information you need.  If you fall into this category, the PRO LX+ might be a little more than what you realistically need.

However, if you’re serious about your game, expect deadly accurate yardages, and want all the statistical information you can get to play your best, there might not be a more complete rangefinder in 2023 than the Shot Scope PRO LX+.  It doesn’t matter if you’re a high handicapper or scratch player.

Alright, I hope you’re ready because we’ve got a lot to discuss when it comes to the tech, design, features, and functions with the Shot Scope PRO LX+. 

To start, let’s acknowledge the fact that the PRO LX+ is both a rangefinder and GPS.  That’s right, you can not only shoot the exact yardage to your target, but you get GPS readings to the front, middle, and back of every green as well.  And with a laser range of up to 900 yards, it’s safe to say no target’s going to be out of reach.  Even more, the adaptive slope feature gives you a gross yardage to your target, as well as one that’s adjusted for downhill and uphill slopes. 

Next on the list are the astounding 36,000+ courses the unit comes preloaded with.  Considering there are somewhere around 15,500 courses in the United States alone, it’s a safe bet the GPS function will work no matter where in the world you find yourself playing.

Dialing in the focus to your eyesight can be a tricky proposition with any rangefinder.  What appears crystal clear to me, might be blurry and cloudy for you.  Fortunately, the PRO LX+ comes with 7X magnification so your field of vision will always be crystal clear.  Trust me, you’ll never have any problem finding your target. 

The ultimate test of any rangefinder is how accurate it is.  Just think about it, if you’re shooting yardages that are 10 yards off, you’re going to come up long or short all day long.  Not to worry with the PRO LX+ though.  It’s accurate to within a single yard, features adaptive slope technology, front, middle, and back of green yardages, and both red and black optics that make reading the yardage easy in any lighting condition. 

But that’s just the start with this rangefinder.  Without a doubt, my favorite feature is its performance tracking feature that allows you to record data on every shot you hit. . .

How does that work?  The answer is pretty simple.  The PRO LX+ comes with 16 ultra-lightweight tracking tags that attach to the end of the grips on your clubs.  Before you hit a shot, simply tap the tag against the rangefinder, and you’ll receive a vibration letting you know that particular club has been detected.  Then just hit your shot and all the pertinent information will be recorded. 

When you’re done with your round, all your shots will be uploaded to the Shot Scope app (which you need to download to your smart device) where you can analyze the data and get access to more than 100 data points.  This is a great tool to not only dial in your distances, but also identify your game’s strengths and weaknesses.

The PRO LX+ comes with some extras that are pretty neat too.  They include a waterproof carrying case, adjustable eyepiece, and an ultra-strong magnet that attaches easily to any metal surface. 

As you can see, there isn’t much the Shot Scope PRO LX+ can’t do.

The Shot Scope PRO LX+ weighs 234 grams and measures 119 millimeters long by 42 millimeters wide by 88 millimeters tall.

Its grip is made of soft, industrial-grade PVC rubber. 

It operates off a CR2 V3 battery that lasts for up to 5,800 measurements. 

Our Experience

As our Golfer’s Authority readers know all too well, I’m a total geek when it comes to rangefinders (usually because I lose one or more every season).  But I’m here to tell you that my first-hand experience with the PRO LX+ has more than surpassed my expectations.

I love the fact that it’s both a rangefinder and GPS wrapped into one unit.  Being able to use both those features takes all the guesswork out of obtaining accurate yardages.
