Best Golf Games for Xbox

The Xbox gaming system came out in 2013.  But even though numerous gaming systems have emerged since then, Xbox remains popular within the gaming culture.

And there are a lot of Xbox loyalists who are into golf.  At the request of one of our readers, the Golfer’s Authority staff did a little research to find out what the most popular golf games for Xbox are.

Our findings are below.

PGA Tour 2K21

Personally, I don’t have much interest in video games of any kind.  But even I’m familiar with PGA Tour 2K21.

Arguably the most popular golf video game on the market, this game’s graphics have to be seen to be believed.  You can even customize your own courses.

Compared to previous versions, 2K21 has added mechanical improvements that allow players to alter settings to vary distance, tempo, direction, and spin.

Career mode lets you play an entire PGA Tour schedule and compete for the FedEx Cup Championship trophy.  Hey, if you can’t beat the best in the world in real life, there’s always the chance with 2K21.

And the coolest feature is that you can compete online with other players anywhere in the world.

The Golf Club 2019

When it comes to authenticity, gamers agree that the Golf Club 2019 is at the top of the list.

Officially licensed by the PGA Tour, this game allows you to compete in actual Tour events.

When you play in Career mode, you can take the same journey the pros go through to rise through the ranks.  That includes Q-school, the Web.com Tour, and ultimately a spot on the PGA Tour where you can compete for the FedEx Cup.

The online multiplayer feature lets you work on your game and monitor your progress while simultaneously competing against other players online.

Like PGA Tour 2K21, the Golf Club 2019 also lets you design your own courses.

Powerstar Golf

If you’re new to the Xbox experience, or just want a golf game that’s simple and easy to play, Powerstar Golf is the game for you.

This game’s cartoon aesthetics give it an arcade-like feel that’s perfect for children or casual gamers.

You’ll like the cast of different players too.  Each one has their own unique personality and set of skills.

As you continue to play and get better, you can accumulate points and move up the leaderboard.

Affordable, fun, and easy to play, Powerstar remains timeless to this day.

Rory McIlroy PGA Tour

Tiger Woods had a golf video game made in his name when he was in his prime, so it reasons that Rory McIlroy has one too.

Gamers agree that Rory McIlroy PGA Tour has the best graphics of any game on the market.  They’re crystal clear and the contours of the course are just like playing the real thing.

This game is perfect for all levels of player too.  Beginners can choose the arcade-style control input, and advanced players can endlessly tinker with their swing for maximum shot versatility.

If you’re sick of playing a normal round of golf, just switch over to Night mode.  Here you can play interactive games where you accumulate points by hitting lasers or putting to different targets.

If you play Rory McIlroy PGA Tour once, you’ll want to play it again and again.

NeoGeo Big Tournament Golf

rory 2

If you’re a sucker for vintage games, you’re going to love NeoGeo Big Tournament golf.

Released in 1996, this game’s the oldest one for Xbox.  But its vintage graphics will take you back to your childhood.

Gameplay formats are stroke play and match play.

Simple and nostalgic, don’t overlook NeoGeo Big Tournament Golf.

Final Thoughts

Are there newer, sleeker gaming platforms than the Xbox?  Of course.  But just because the Xbox is older, doesn’t mean it lacks the ability to facilitate fun for gamers, especially those that are partial to golf.
