Best Golf Courses in Ohio

If you’ve never had a chance to experience an Ohio State football game in person, I’d highly recommend it.  Not only are they really good every year, words can’t describe what it’s like to be surrounded by more than 100,000 diehard fans inside Ohio Stadium.  I’ve been to plenty of college games in my day and this was by far my favorite experience.

While the Buckeyes are known nationwide for their gridiron prowess, you might not know that Ohio is home to some of the best golf courses in the country too.  Sure, there are plenty of private ones where you have to know a member to get on.  However, there’s no shortage of outstanding public courses you can play as well.  Check out our top 10 below.

Opened in 1995, Oak Shadows continues to receive rave reviews from both locals and visitors alike.

Rolling hills and tree lined fairways give this course a lot of character.

Here, you’re going to use every club in your bag and opportunity for creativity abounds.  That’s especially true around the course’s many elevated greens.

Truly a pleasure to play, I highly recommend a round at Oak Shadows.

Majestic Springs Golf Club

Mother Nature is what shaped the links-style course at Majestic Springs.  Sprawling meadows, native grasses, and copious wetlands make this round an experience unlike any other in the area.

Less than 200,000 yards of dirt were moved in the construction of Majestic Springs.  That’s reflected in the natural topography the course inhabits.  It’s easy to see why locals love this course so much.

Along with being designed beside nature, Majestic Springs was conceived to be playable for every golfer.

The club’s staff are always welcoming and bend over backward to make sure every guest enjoys their day.

EagleSticks is more than just great golf, it’s a great experience.  From the moment you arrive until you put your clubs in your car after your round, you’ll feel welcomed and cared for.

The course itself is beautiful.  Frequent elevation changes, plush fairways, and numerous waterfalls accent the 150 acres on which this course sits.

I recommend playing this course early in the morning or late in the day when Mother Nature is on full display.

Truly an exceptional all-around experience, I’ll definitely be back to EagleSticks Golf Club.

Located in the rolling farm country of Southern Ohio, Indian Ridge is a must play.

Spacious vistas of the surrounding countryside can be found on nearly every hole at Indian Ridge.  Don’t let the views fool you however, the course demands your utmost attention.

Bentgrass fairways are complemented by crystal blue lakes that come into play.

If you’re looking for a lesson from one of the best teachers in the state, be sure to get in touch with PGA Professional, Andy Anderson.  He’s spent his life coaching some of the best players in the game and really knows his stuff.

10

Chippewa Golf Club

Located just 15 minutes from Akron, Chippewa Golf Club is one of the best values in the area.

Designed in 1962, the course meanders its way through rolling hills of green.

Even though it’s spacious off the tee, the course’s undulating greens can present a real challenge.

Just because you’re cruising along, don’t hold your breath as holes 14, 15, and 16 are called the “Bermuda Triangle.”  On this stretch, you’ll pay the price if you miss a shot.

Due to the lack of trees, frequent winds only add to the fun and excitement that is a round at Chippewa Golf Club.

Conclusion

Ohio is a rich state in every sense of the word.  From its diversity of landscape, to the people, to things to do, there’s nothing quite like it.  And don’t forget, lots of great golf.

I’ve been fortunate to play some of the better public tracks in the state but I’m sure there’s many more I need to check off my list.  What are some of your favorites?  Let us know in the comments below.
