Payntr Sport Proto RS Review: The $180 Payntr With a Bootie

The Payntr Sport Proto RS is $180, and it’s basically Payntr’s spiked Moving Day SC RS with a bootie and a Wide option for the exact same money. If you want a spiked, waterproof Payntr that wraps your foot, and especially if your foot runs wide, this is the one I’d look at first.

Is the Payntr Sport Proto RS worth buying?

Payntr makes a lot of spiked shoes at $180 now. The Moving Day SC RS, the Reserve Classic Tour RS, and this one. So the real question isn’t whether the Sport Proto RS is good. It’s why you’d pick it over the other two at the same price.

And the answer is two things. The bootie, and the Wide. Neither of the other two gives you both.

It’s also the newest spiked shoe in Payntr’s lineup. The men’s version went up on Payntr’s site in April 2026, and a women’s version showed up in October. So it’s still early days for this one.

Quick Overview

  • It’s $180 at Payntr and $179.99 at Worldwide Golf Shops, so the price is basically the same everywhere.
  • It’s spiked and waterproof, with Tour Flex Pro spikes you can swap out when they wear down.
  • The ARIAPRENE tongue and bootie wrap your foot, which the Moving Day SC RS and Reserve Classic Tour RS don’t do.
  • You get Medium or Wide in men’s sizes 5 to 13, and there’s a women’s version too.
  • Payntr doesn’t publish the weight, the heel drop or the outsole material, so you’re buying the parts list.

The Bootie Is the Whole Reason This Shoe Exists

Line up Payntr’s spec sheets and the Sport Proto RS is almost the same shoe as the Moving Day SC RS. Same plate. Same ORTHOLITE footbed. Same microfiber upper family, same waterproof membrane, same $180.

The difference is the bootie. Both shoes get an ARIAPRENE tongue, but only the Sport Proto RS gets the bootie too. ARIAPRENE is an open-cell foam, and a bootie basically means the inside of the shoe wraps around your foot more like a sock, instead of a tongue that just sits on top. Payntr’s pitch is that your foot stays put in the shoe.

And that matters most on the downswing. That’s when you’re pushing hardest off the ground. If your foot slides around inside the shoe, it doesn’t matter how good the spikes are. You’re slipping inside the shoe instead of on the grass.

The other spiked Payntr with this tongue-and-bootie setup is the Eighty Seven SC, and that’s $220. Now you can get that fit for $180. So if you were already about to buy the Moving Day SC in the spiked version, I’d spend the same money on this one instead.

A Real Wide at $180 Is a Bigger Deal Than It Sounds

This is the part that got my attention. The Sport Proto RS comes in Medium and Wide, and the Moving Day SC RS doesn’t come in wide at all.

If you’ve got a wide foot, you already know how this goes. You find a shoe you like, it only comes in Medium, and you either size up and swim in it or you squeeze into it and pay for it on the back nine. A true Wide fixes that without messing with your length.

Now, here’s what you need to know about stock. On November 2, the White / Black / Haze in Wide had 8 of 10 sizes available on Payntr’s site. The Ember in Wide had zero. And Worldwide Golf Shops only carries the Medium, in sizes 8 to 13.

So if you need a Wide, you’re buying it from Payntr. And if you want the Ember in Wide, you’re waiting.

The Waterproofing and Footbed Are the Same Stack I Picked for Walkers

The rest of the Sport Proto RS is Payntr’s usual performance stack. And I already like this stack.

When I picked the Payntr Sport Classic LE for walkers in my 97-shoe golf shoe video, I called out a whole list of parts. Two of them carry right over to this shoe. The ORTHOLITE footbed is rated to compress less than 5%, so hole 18 is supposed to feel like hole one. And the waterproof membrane is sealed with a bottom gasket, so water can’t sneak in from underneath the way it does on most waterproof shoes.

Then the midsole is PMXNITROGEN+, which is nitrogen-infused foam for cushion. And under that sits the PMXSPEED PLT, Payntr’s propulsion plate. The idea is that you push off the ground better through the swing.

The spikes are the part I like most on a $180 shoe, though. They’re Tour Flex Pro replaceable spikes. So when they wear down, you swap them and keep going. Your grip isn’t tied to the life of the shoe.

And the upper is CLARINO Trivela microfiber, not leather. It’s lighter than leather and it’s supposed to hold up better. If you want that classic leather look, that’s the Reserve, not this.

At $180, It Undercuts the Eighty Seven SC by $40

Here’s how the money shakes out.

The Sport Proto RS is $180 at Payntr and $179.99 at Worldwide Golf Shops. Payntr’s own page says discounts don’t apply on this shoe, so the price is the price.

The Moving Day SC RS is $180 too, with no bootie and no Wide. So against that one, the Sport Proto RS is the better spec for nothing extra.

The Reserve Classic Tour RS is also $180. That’s the classic-looking one, and it’s been around longer with a lot more reviews behind it. Min Woo Lee wears it. If you want the traditional look and the bigger track record, that’s your shoe.

And the Eighty Seven SC is $220. What you get for the extra $40 is the Carbitex GearFlex plate, which is the better of Payntr’s two plates. The Sport Proto RS has the cheaper PMXSPEED PLT. But honestly, for most golfers, I don’t think the plate is where you’ll feel $40. The bootie and the fit are what you feel.

So if you want the Eighty Seven SC fit and you don’t care about the carbon plate, keep the $40.

What I Don’t Love

Here’s the catch. Nobody has actually tested this shoe yet. Not me, and there isn’t a real hands-on review from anyone else yet either. It’s seven months old and Payntr’s own site has exactly two reviews on it. So you’re buying Payntr’s parts list on Payntr’s word.

That’s a fair bet if you already wear Payntr. Most of these parts are on their other shoes. But if you need proof before you spend $180, the Reserve Classic Tour RS has it and this doesn’t yet.

The other thing that bugs me is the warranty. This is a $180 shoe sold as waterproof, and Payntr’s product page doesn’t list a waterproof warranty. TRUE’s OG3 Pro was $199 at last check, with a two-year waterproof warranty. It’s spikeless, so it’s not the same shoe, but if dry feet with paper behind them is your top priority, that’s a real difference.

And Payntr doesn’t publish a weight. For a shoe it calls lightweight, I’d like a number. So buy it from Payntr or somewhere with easy returns. Payntr gives you 45 days. Lace it up tight at home, walk around, and make sure that bootie actually holds your ankle before you take it to the course.

Who It’s For

Buy it if:

  • You want a spiked Payntr with a bootie and you don’t want to pay $220 for the Eighty Seven SC.
  • You’ve got a wide foot and you’re tired of sizing up in Medium shoes.
  • You play in wet conditions and you want waterproofing with a sealed bottom gasket.
  • You like a modern, sporty look over the classic leather style.

Skip it if:

  • You need a proven, tested shoe today. Get the Reserve Classic Tour RS.
  • A waterproof warranty is a must. Look at TRUE’s OG3 Pro.
  • You want a spikeless shoe you can wear off the course. That’s the Sport Proto SL at $170.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Payntr Sport Proto RS waterproof?

Yes. It has Payntr’s WATERPROOF+ breathable membrane with a sealed bottom gasket, so water shouldn’t get in from underneath. There’s no waterproof warranty listed for it, though, so if that coverage matters to you, ask Payntr before you buy.

Does the Payntr Sport Proto RS come in wide?

Yep. The men’s version comes in Medium and Wide. In early November, most Haze Wide sizes were in stock at Payntr, and the Ember Wide was sold out. Worldwide Golf Shops only carries Medium, so if you need a Wide, buy it from Payntr.

Is the Sport Proto RS the same as the Tour Proto RS?

No. They’re different shoes. The Sport Proto RS is part of Payntr’s newer speed and stability line, with a CLARINO microfiber upper. The older Tour Proto line used full-grain leather. So don’t buy one expecting the other.

What’s the difference between the Payntr Sport Proto RS and Sport Proto SL?

Spikes. The RS is the spiked version with replaceable Tour Flex Pro spikes, and the SL is the spikeless version at $170 on Payntr’s site. If you want maximum grip on wet grass, get the RS. If you want one shoe from the car to the first tee to lunch, get the SL.

How much does the Payntr Sport Proto RS cost?

It’s $180 direct, or $179.99 at Worldwide Golf Shops, and Payntr won’t take discount codes on it. That matches the Moving Day SC RS and saves you $40 over the Eighty Seven SC.

Final Thoughts: Payntr Sport Proto RS Review

If you were about to buy a $180 spiked Payntr anyway, buy this one. You get the bootie and the Wide for the same money, and if you need that Wide, get it straight from Payntr. And if you want to see what else made my list, check out the best golf shoes I’d buy right now.
