Best Golf Rangefinders

Updated January 2024 to add the Voice Caddie SL3 Hybrid.

Hey everyone, it’s Paul from Golfer’s Authority. As you guys know, one of the coolest parts about my job is that I get to spend a lot of time trying the latest and greatest golf equipment. As a certified golf geek, I love what I get to do every day. But you know what I love even more, sharing what I find with all of you so that you can make the best and most informed decisions for your own game.

I’ve never tried more equipment than I have in 2024. It’s been an absolute blast, and in today’s buying guide, I can’t wait to share with you what I’ve found out about the best rangefinders for this year.
I’ve tried out dozens over the last couple of months and have narrowed down a list of what I consider to be the very best ones in a few different categories for 2024. But, if you are looking for the Best Golf Rangefinder with Slope, then be sure to check out our latest guide. So, let’s have a closer look.

What You Should Look for in a Rangefinder

Purchasing a rangefinder is a big decision for your golf game.  Just like you wouldn’t buy a new car without doing some research and asking yourself some questions, you shouldn’t buy a new rangefinder without doing the same.

Let’s go over a few things you should consider before you swipe your credit card on a new rangefinder.

The most important function of any rangefinder is to measure distances as accurately as possible.  You might not think so, but some rangefinders are more accurate than others.  That’s why it’s important to do some of your own research.  Check out online forums, ask your buddies what they think, and test the rangefinder’s accuracy out for yourself if possible.

Budget is the next factor you should consider when buying a rangefinder.  As you’ll see on our list below, some rangefinders cost less than $100 while others run well north of $500 or $600.  Typically, you’re going to get what you pay for, but your budget should definitely be something you consider.
Rangefinders today have a lot more going on than they did 20 years ago.  With that said, it’s imperative that you make sure all the functions and features of the one you’re thinking about buying are working properly before you make the purchase.  Here again, doing some of your own research can go a long way.

Speaking of functions and features, you also need to ask yourself which ones are most important to you in a rangefinder.  Do you want just basic yardages?  Or could you benefit from a rangefinder with a built-in GPS that gives you all sorts of additional information?

These are all important things to keep in mind as you go through our list of the Best Rangefinders for 2024 below.

A quick note about testing.  I played a minimum of three rounds with each of these rangefinders and spent countless hours on the range with each.  My findings are transparent and based on my own experience.

Best Overall Golf Rangefinder – Bushnell Pro X3 Laser Rangefinder

I had the Bushnell Pro XE when it first came out, and it was one of the better range finders I’ve ever owned.

But having tried the Bushnell Pro X3, I can honestly say that it’s better than the Pro XE and the best rangefinder I tried in 2024, period.

One of the things that sets Pro X3 apart from the competition is that it allows you to enter temperature and elevation before you play.  As we all know, the ball tends to fly shorter at lower elevations and in colder temperatures, and farther at higher elevations in warmer temperatures.  Having the ability to plug this info in before you play makes a big difference in how accurate the adjusted yardages are that you get out on the course.

I also like the red and black dual display, and the ability to utilize the Bushnell Golf app for additional features like 3D hole flyovers and automatic course updates.

This isn’t the cheapest rangefinder on the market, but it’s the best one in 2024in my opinion.

Most Advanced Rangefinder – Shot Scope Pro LX+ Laser Rangefinder

Sure, some golfers like to keep it simple, but others are all about the tech and getting as much information out on the course as they can.

If that sounds like you, there’s no more high-tech rangefinder in 2024than the Shot Scope Pro LX.

This device doesn’t just give you the benefits of a scope, it also has a built-in GPS that gives you front, middle, and back of green yardages, and numbers to hazards and other points of interest as well.  It’s like having your own digitized yardage book.

And how about the fact that the GPS comes with more than 36,000 preloaded courses?  That means no more having to download a course every time you play someplace new.

We aren’t done yet though.  The Pro LX also comes with 16 tracking tags you attach to the end of your clubs.  As you swing, these tags track more than 100 clubhead and ball flight data points that you can access whenever you want via the free app on your smartphone or tablet.

Suffice it to say the Pro LX can do a lot more than anything else on the market.  That’s why it was the easy choice for the most high-tech rangefinder this year.

Best Rangefinder for the Price – Bushnell Tour V6 SHIFT Rangefinder

Another key component in any rangefinder is the quality of its optics.  There’s nothing better in this regard than the Bushnell Tour V6 SHIFT.

Improved lenses and electronics make this the most accurate, longest ranging rangefinder Bushnell has ever made.

In fact, it’s so accurate, it’s the trusted choice for 99% or PGA Tour Pros.

Other improvements with this rangefinder include more sensitivity in the Pinseeker Jolt feature, enhanced IPX6 weather resistant construction, and a stronger cart magnet.

For a rangefinder that you can count on for accuracy and reliability, don’t overlook the Bushnell Tour V6 SHIFT rangefinder.

Best Rangefinder Under $300 – Precision Pro NX10 Slope Rangefinder

Golfers love customization, and that’s exactly what they get with the Precision Pro NX10.  It’s the most customizable rangefinder on the market, hands down.  The company offers a wide variety of different skins that are easily interchangeable.

There’s more to the story than just looks though.  Target acquisition technology lets you know when you’re zeroed in on the flag, and the slope feature can easily be turned off during tournament play.

When it comes to durability, the NX10 packs a punch.  It’s made of industrial-grade plastic and steel that’s more than capable of taking a beating.

For less than $300, this rangefinder gives you a lot of bang for your buck.

Best Rangefinder Under $200 – Blue Tees S3 Max Rangefinder

Blue Tees is a company that’s newer to the rangefinder game than some of the more established brands like Bushnell and Garmin.

But they’ve quickly garnered a reputation as a company that produces quality rangefinders and prices most golfers can afford.

Their newest release is the S3 Max.

I’m really impressed with this rangefinder’s functions and ease of use.

The first thing I noticed was how vibrant and easy to read the display was.  Auto ambient technology allows the display’s color to automatically adjust to the surrounding light conditions.  Rain, shine, dark, or bright, this rangefinder’s display is first-rate.

The reliability of the flag lock and pulse vibration stood out as well.

Overall, the Max 3 is a quality rangefinder at a price point that’s more affordable than some of the bigger names.

Most Accurate – Nikon Coolshot Proll Stabilized Rangefinder

Stability is a huge thing for me when it comes to rangefinders.  I have an especially hard time locking in on the target on windy days.

The Nikon Coolshot Proll Stabilized rangefinder alleviates all that worry.  It’s all thanks to Nikon’s HYPER Read technology, industry-leading OLED display, and a 6x monocular that increases stability and makes the display crystal clear.

In terms of accuracy this rangefinder was in a league of its own.  Over the course of three rounds, it was never off more than a half yard.

Even though Nikon might be best known for making world-class cameras, it should come as little surprise that their latest rangefinder occupies a spot on our list.

Best Smart Rangefinder – Voice Caddie SL3 Hybrid GPS/Laser Rangefinder

Just like the Pro LX, the Voice Caddie SL3 is a GPS and rangefinder all in one.

The laser gives you both gross and adjusted yardages and lets you know when you’re locked in on the flag.

The GPS is where the real story lies though.  It comes with a touchscreen display that gives you an overhead view of every hole.  You can even use your finger to tap specific points of interest for a precise yardage.

When you activate the green view feature, you’re shown the exact undulation of the green.  This is super helpful in planning your approach shots and reading putts.  It also gives you topographic maps in full color so you can dial in all your short shots.

It’s easy to see why the SL3 gets my vote as the smartest rangefinder currently on the market.

Best Rangefinder Under $150 – Shot Scope Pro L2 Rangefinder

If you’re looking to spend less than $150, the Shot Scope Pro L2 rangefinder is a great option.

It has 6x magnification making it easy to find your target with high resolution.  And it’s accurate to within a yard up to 700 yards.  That’s pretty impressive for a rangefinder at this price point.

It also comes with target lock vibration, slope yardage capability, and a durable carrying case.

Simple and easy to use, the Pro L2 definitely met my expectations.

Most Popular Rangefinder – Callaway 200s Laser Rangefinder

A lot of our readers aren’t always looking for the biggest, brightest, most expensive golf equipment.  That’s why I think it’s always important to talk about some affordable options.

After trying several budget rangefinders this year, the Callaway 200s rangefinder is hands down the best choice.

This rangefinder has everything you need and nothing you don’t.  It gives you gross and slope-adjusted yardages, has pin acquisition technology that’s good up to 275 yards, and an overall range of 800 yards.

I’m also a fan of its small, compact design.  It fits easily in the palm of my hand and stores easily in my golf bag.

Easy to use, simple in its function, and quite reliable, there’s nothing wrong with the Callaway 200s rangefinder.

Editor’s Choice – Garmin Approach Z82 Rangefinder with GPS

Garmin is one of the most trusted names in the industry when it comes to rangefinders.  They’ve been churning out quality products since day one.

The company’s latest rangefinder is the Approach Z82 with GPS.

Honestly, there isn’t a single feature that makes this rangefinder jump off the page.  Instead, it’s the all-around performance and functionality that I like the most.

When it comes to accuracy, it was one of the best.  It was never more than 10” off from the flag in all the testing I did.

Equally impressive was the image stabilization.  As someone that has a hard time holding my rangefinder steady, I had zero issues with the Approach Z82.

The GPS is also really cool.  It has more than 41,000 courses and the 2D display is bright and easy to read.  It even offers hazards views and a laser arc feature that gives you yardages to any point on a hole.

For overall function and usability, it’s hard to beat the Approach Z82.

Best Golf GPS – Bushnell Phantom 2 Golf GPS

Not all golfers prefer rangefinders.  Some like the convenience and compact size of GPS units.

I reviewed a few of the best ones to come out this year and am convinced that the Bushnell Phantom 2 is the best one on the market.

It has more than 38,000 preloaded courses so no matter where you play you won’t have to worry about downloading a new course.

The unit gives you yardages to the front, middle, and back of every green, in addition to six hazard yardages on each hole.

Additional features include a magnet and carabiner clip, a battery that lasts up to 18 hours, and access to the Bushnell Golf app.

Best Golf GPS Watch – Garmin Approach S70 GPS Watch

GPS watches have advanced just as much as rangefinders.  The Garmin Approach S70 GPS watch is no exception.

With more than 43,000 preloaded courses, you’ll be ready to play the moment you get to the tee, no matter where you’re at.

I really like the virtual caddie feature.  It accounts for elevation, wind speed and direction, and your swing tendencies to make club recommendations tailored to your game.

The green contour view shows you the slopes on every green.  This is a huge benefit in strategizing your approach and short game shots.

The watch also monitors your health metrics 24/7.  It even has profiles for physical activities like strength, HIIT, running, and yoga.

This watch is a lot more than just a golf GPS, and therefore gets the vote for this year’s best option.
