Wilson Profile SGI Golf Set Review: 10 Clubs and a Tall Option

The Wilson Profile SGI is a 10-club beginner set with a stand bag, and it’s going for $449.99. It’s a good first set, especially if you’re tall, but you need to know what’s in the box and what isn’t before you buy.

Is the Wilson Profile SGI Golf Set worth buying?

Here’s the thing most people miss when they shop for a box set. The number on the box isn’t the number of clubs. Callaway’s Strata 12-piece is only 9 clubs, because the bag and the headcovers count as pieces.

The Profile SGI is 10 actual clubs. You get a driver, a 5-wood, a 5-hybrid, the 6 through 9 irons, a pitching wedge, a sand wedge and a putter. Then the bag and three headcovers on top of that.

Quick Overview

  • It’s 10 clubs: a 10.5-degree 460cc driver, 5-wood, 5-hybrid, 6 through 9 irons, pitching wedge, sand wedge and a putter.
  • You also get a carry stand bag and three headcovers for the driver, fairway wood and hybrid.
  • It comes in a men’s standard length for 5’5″ to 6’1″ and a tall length for 6’1″ to 6’5″.
  • It’s $449.99. That’s less than the Strata 12-piece, and you get one more club.
  • Wilson covers it with a one-year limited warranty, but only for the original buyer from an authorized dealer.

Ten Clubs, and One of Them Is a Sand Wedge

When I took the Callaway Strata 12-piece out on the course, the first dilemma was simple: all I had was a pitching wedge. There was no sand wedge in the bag, and I was missing my wedges almost right away.

Callaway Strata irons and woods in the blue Strata stand bag on a golf cart

That was the Strata, not the Wilson. But it’s exactly why the sand wedge matters in a box set. Every soft shot around the green turns into a guess when the only wedge you’ve got is a pitching wedge.

The Profile SGI gives you both. The sand wedge is Wilson’s Easy Launch wedge, with a wide sole and the weight set low. Basically, it’s built to slide through the sand and soft turf instead of digging in, and that’s the shot that wrecks a beginner’s scorecard.

Callaway Strata irons laid out on a white table with the 7-iron in front

There’s still a gap between the pitching wedge and the sand wedge, though. If you start playing a lot and keep landing on that in-between distance, a gap wedge is the first club I’d add. If you’re not sure what that club does, here’s my breakdown of what a gap wedge is and how it’s different.

The 5-Hybrid Is Your Long Iron, So Get Used to Hitting It

There’s no 5-iron in this set. The irons start at the 6, and the 5-hybrid takes that spot.

I ran into the same thing on the Strata. On a long approach I didn’t have a 5-iron, so I went to the 5-hybrid. And honestly, for most beginners that’s the better club anyway. A hybrid is a lot easier to get in the air than a long iron, and the Wilson’s has a shallow face that’s built for launch.

The 5-wood works the same way. Wilson gave it a graphite shaft and low weighting, so it’s more usable off the fairway than a 3-wood would be. If you want to know when to grab the hybrid instead of an iron, I go through it in when to use a hybrid in golf.

The irons are deep cavity backs in 431 stainless steel, with the weight pushed to the edges and down low. That’s a super game-improvement shape. You’ll see a thick topline at address, and that’s the trade for a club that doesn’t punish a toe strike as hard.

The Tall Length Is the Real Reason to Pick This Set

This is where the Profile SGI separates itself from a lot of box sets, including the Strata.

Wilson makes it in two men’s lengths. Standard is for golfers from 5’5″ to 6’1″, and tall is for 6’1″ to 6’5″. So if you’re 6’3″, you’re not stuck hunching over clubs that are built for somebody a lot shorter than you.

But don’t buy off your height alone. Wilson’s own sizing page says height is a guide, and that your wrist-to-floor measurement matters. If you’re right around 6’1″, measure before you pick, because that’s where standard and tall overlap.

Wilson also lists right- and left-handed versions. Just make sure the exact hand and length you want is the one the seller actually has, because the listing you land on might default to a different one.

At $449.99, It Undercuts the Strata That Has the Same Clubs

Let’s do the math out loud.

The Strata 12-piece is $499.99, and it’s 9 clubs with no sand wedge. To get the sand wedge, you have to step up to the Strata Plus 14-piece at $599.99. That’s 10 clubs, the same count as the Wilson, for about $150 more. I break down every Strata set in my Callaway Strata review.

So at $449.99, the Profile SGI is the cheaper way to get 10 clubs with both wedges. And you get the tall option on top of that.

Now, the Tour Edge Bazooka 370 is $599.99 and gives you 12 clubs and a cart bag. If you ride every round and want more clubs at the top of the bag, that’s the one to look at. And Cobra’s FLY-XL is $999. That’s a set for somebody who already knows they’re going to play every week.

Just know the price on this set moves around. It was $429.99 in a 2023 flyer and $499.99 in 2024, so check it before you count on $449.99.

What I Don’t Love

There’s a catch. There’s always a catch. And with the Profile SGI, it’s what you’re not getting.

The driver is a fixed 10.5-degree head. No adjustable hosel, no movable weights, no shaft options. If you get hooked on golf, that’s the first club I’d upgrade.

And 10 clubs leaves holes. There’s no 5-iron, no gap wedge and no extra fairway wood, and you can carry 14. If you want the full breakdown of how many clubs you’re allowed to carry, I go through it in how many clubs are in a golf set.

The bag is a carry bag with a stand. That’s great if you walk. If you ride a cart every round, it’ll sit on the cart, but it’s not a cart bag.

And watch the name. Wilson now sells a newer Profile Complete set, and it’s a different product from the SGI. So read the listing before you pay. And if you’re buying it used, know that Wilson’s one-year warranty only covers the person who bought it new from an authorized dealer, so a used set doesn’t get it.

Who It’s For

Buy it if:

  • You’re new to golf or coming back to it, and you want one box with a bag, a hybrid and both wedges.
  • You’re between 6’1″ and 6’5″ and you want a starter set in a tall length.
  • You walk your rounds and want a stand bag.
  • You want 10 clubs for less than the Strata Plus costs.

Skip it if:

  • You already know you’ll play every week. Look at a step-up set like the Cobra FLY-XL.
  • You ride a cart and want 12 clubs. Get the Tour Edge Bazooka 370.
  • You want an adjustable driver or a fitted shaft from day one.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many clubs are in the Wilson Profile SGI set?

Ten. You get a 10.5-degree driver, a 5-wood, a 5-hybrid, the 6 through 9 irons, a pitching wedge, a sand wedge and a putter. The bag and three headcovers come on top of the 10 clubs.

Does the Wilson Profile SGI come in tall?

Yes. Wilson makes a men’s tall version for golfers from 6’1″ to 6’5″, and the standard length covers 5’5″ to 6’1″. Height is only a guide, so check your wrist-to-floor measurement if you’re close to 6’1″.

Does the Wilson Profile SGI include a 5-iron?

No. The irons start at the 6-iron, and the 5-hybrid takes the place of the 5-iron. For most beginners the hybrid is easier to get in the air anyway.

Is the Wilson Profile SGI good for beginners?

Yes. The 460cc driver, the 5-hybrid, the cavity-back irons and the wide-sole sand wedge are all built to launch the ball and forgive a miss. It’s a good first set if you want to get on the course without building a bag club by club.

Is the Wilson Profile SGI still available?

It’s still listed, but check the exact listing. Wilson also sells a newer Profile Complete set, and that’s a different product. Make sure the page says Profile SGI and that your hand and length are actually in stock.

Final Thoughts: Wilson Profile SGI Golf Set Review

Here’s where I land. If you want one box with 10 clubs, a sand wedge and a stand bag for $449.99, the Profile SGI is a good buy, and if you’re tall, it’s an even better one. If you ride a cart and want more clubs, get the Bazooka 370 instead. And if you already know golf is your thing, put the money toward a step-up set.
