Oban Golf shafts remain some of the best golf shafts in both graphite and steel that very few talk about. Oban Golf shafts are only dealt in premium club fitting locations and on worldwide golf tours, the benefit is that every Oban Golf shaft created is made without a single sacrifice in performance. The detriment of that is that you likely have never seen or hit an Oban Golf shaft before. For this review we put the Oban CT steel golf shaft through our testing process to see what this advanced material design can create in the hands of the right golfer.

Who Should You Buy the Oban CT Golf Shaft?

The Oban CT shaft is such a unique product I believe that many golfers would find success with it in either their irons or wedges. The control it provides at impact will appeal to golfers looking to flight their golf ball through specific windows yet the smooth response it gives will be a pleasure for even high handicap players that simply want to maximize their distance and accuracy.

Ultimately, matching a shaft to your iron club head of choice will yield the best results and seeing a club fitting professional is often the fastest way to get to your ideal setup. Begin with a shape you enjoy and then match the shaft that best allows you to return that golf club to the golf ball every time. Players and club builders that have never tested or tried an Oban shaft will be remiss if they do not add the Oban CT to their lineups this season. Overall, the Oban CT shaft is exceptionally made and looks to serve a wide net of golfers to help facilitate more accuracy through tighter dispersions and a direct path to lower scores.

Design and Technology

Oban CT shafts are built specifically to create golf shots that perform the same time after time. Each set is balanced such that every club in your bag flows perfectly into the next. The Oban CT features a constant weighting system and a taper tip to provide club fitters and builders with more options including 13 shaft lengths and 11 different flexes. Golfers can be custom fit to their exact specs better with the Oban CT than almost every other steel golf shaft on the market and that directly translates to the higher levels of consistency and tighter dispersion patterns associated with this high-performance golf shaft.

Specs

Oban CT shafts are all weight, flex, balance, and bend point sorted. The CT can be built with 100, 115, and 125-gram weight ranges and flexes including Amateur (A), Amateur+ (A+), Regular- (R-), Regular (R), Regular+ (R), Stiff- (S-), Stiff (S), Stiff+ (S+), Extra-Stiff- (X-), Extra-Stiff (X), and Extra-Stiff+ (X+). Oban CT shafts can be custom built by most advanced performance club fitting locations or ordered from select online custom golf club shops.

Our Experience

Oban’s commitment to individual product tolerances and exceptional build quality are highlighted throughout the CT shaft. Top to bottom, in 3-iron through pitching wedges, the Oban CT shaft is an excellent performer. Objectively, for many golfers it is going to be a balance of stability and smoothness they have never experienced. Fast swing speed players and golfers that tend to opt for heavier options in their iron shafts will quickly fall in love with the CT shaft from Oban. Possibly most importantly, because of the increased consistency in my Oban build, my dispersion shrunk to a size I have never experienced before. I have already replaced my gamers with the Oban CT and for the foreseeable future, they are here to stay.

I would describe the Oban CT shaft as a mashup of the KBS Tour and Project X standard steel offerings. Project X steel shafts are renowned for their incredible stability through impact and exceptional control. The KBS Tour is referred to as the best feeling iron shaft available. The Oban CT takes the best parts of the KBS Tour’s responsiveness and couples it with the enhanced stability of the Project X Rifle offering. Having played Project X in my irons for many years, I am always skeptical that a shaft that feels as good as the Oban did would give me my desired output in terms of consistency. The Oban CT stood up to every shot I put it though and excelled in ways that the Project X simply cannot. In total, the Oban CT is slowly becoming my new gamer and I believe it to be the best “little known” shaft in high-performance steel.
