Top Flite has been around since I can remember (that’s a really long time).  As a kid, I remember playing their golf balls because they were some of the longest on the market.  Sure, we used to call them “Rock Flites” because of how hard they were around the green, but man did they go a long way.

Until recently, I was unaware that the company also makes some of the best economical golf clubs too.  In 2021, the Top Flite XL complete set of clubs hit the shelves in golf retail stores and folks have had trouble keeping them in stock ever since.

In this article we’re going to take a closer look at the Top Flite XL complete set and what makes it so popular.

Key Features

  • Low COG in each club promotes a high ball flight, perfect for golfers that struggle getting the ball in the air.
  • Perimeter weighting increases MOI for maximum forgiveness.
  • Offset clubheads help players hit straighter shots, especially those that tend to slice the ball.

If you’re thinking about winning your club championship, your game probably won’t benefit much from the Top Flite XL complete set.

However, if you’re new to the game, or looking for quality equipment at a decent price that’s going to provide maximum forgiveness, this is one of the best options in 2021.

Even though these clubs aren’t going to give you the feel and workability of more advanced clubs, they more than deliver in terms of playability for less seasoned players.

Even more, the set isn’t going to cost you an arm and a leg.

Design and Technology

The Top Flite XL complete set doesn’t have the latest and greatest technology that other, more expensive sets possess.  But, one thing is for sure, they’re well built.

The cast heads in the irons and wedge are made from some of the finest stainless steel around.

Offset, cavity back clubheads in the irons promote high, consistent shots, while also affording maximum forgiveness because of the low COG.

The driver, fairway woods, and irons all come with graphite shafts to help players feel the club head and increase distance.

Steel shafts in the irons and wedge give you the feedback you expect and help you control distance.

Specs

All clubs in the Top Flite complete set come with men’s regular flex shafts.  Length and lie angle are both standard.

There aren’t many options for shaft upgrades or customization, but these clubs perform more than adequately for beginning golfers that might not want to make a huge investment right away.

Our Experience

I haven’t hit the Top Flite XL clubs myself, but a number of our readers have.  The resounding consensus seems to be that they’re a great club for their value.

While advanced players might be better off spending money on more advanced equipment, these clubs incorporate enough modern technology and design features to allow the casual golfer plenty of performance and playability.

PROS

  • Affordability.
  • Offset head design and perimeter weighting provide ample forgiveness.
  • Low COG helps with higher launch and increases forgiveness across the face.

CONS

  • Clubs lack some of the advanced technology of other, more expensive clubs.
  • Better players might not find as much control and workability compared to other clubs.
  • Lack of adjustability and customization options might be a deterrent for some golfers.

Conclusion

Golf shaft fitting is one of the most individualized experience golfers can go through. Understanding your options and how different shafts are designed to perform can help lead you in a direction that allows you to get the most out of your game. Golf shafts like the Oban CT can enable golfers to swing with less effort and provide explosive results due to their innovative compositions.

Seeing a premium club fitter will always be the best way to know which golf shaft is right for your particular iron model(s) and your unique golf swing but leaving Oban off of your testing list would be a mistake. The Oban CT was a golf shaft that I had never used but that took me all of about 15 minutes to fall in love with it and place it into my golf bag.
