Callaway Edge Golf Set Review: Is It Still Worth Buying?

The Callaway Edge is 10 real clubs with an Odyssey putter, and that's still a lot of set for the money. But the 2018 set is discontinued, so you're buying used, and here's exactly how I'd do it without overpaying.

Is the Callaway Edge Golf Set worth buying?

So here's the thing about the Edge. You're not buying a new set anymore. The 2018 Edge 10 Piece Set isn't sold new, and when I checked Callaway's own pre-owned store on October 11, 2026, it showed $335.99 and out of stock. That means every Edge you see is either a used 2018 set or a newer generation with the same name.

This review covers the original 2018 set, not the newer Edge sets you'll see at Costco. I'll tell you what's in it, why it's so cheap, how it compares with the newer options, and what to check before you hand anybody your money.

Quick Overview

  • 10 clubs: driver, 3-wood, 5-hybrid, 6 through 9 irons, pitching wedge, sand wedge, and an Odyssey White Hot Pro putter.
  • No bag: you get headcovers for the driver, 3-wood, hybrid, and putter, but the bag is a separate purchase.
  • Right-handed, stiff flex: that's the stock configuration, with a 10.5-degree driver. It's a fixed package, not a custom order.
  • Discontinued: the 2018 set isn't sold new. You're shopping used or pre-owned.
  • Best parts: the hybrid, the irons, the two wedges, and the Odyssey putter. The driver is the club I'd expect you to replace first.

The 2018 Edge Gives You 10 Real Clubs, and None of Them Is a Bag

This is the part I like most about the Edge. All 10 pieces are golf clubs.

That sounds obvious, but a lot of package sets count the bag and every headcover as a "piece," so a big number on the box turns into way fewer clubs when you dump it out on the floor. The Edge doesn't play that game. You get a driver, a 3-wood, a 5-hybrid, the 6 through 9 irons, a pitching wedge, a sand wedge, and a putter. Ten clubs.

And the makeup makes sense for a new golfer. The 5-hybrid takes the spot where a 5-iron would normally go, so you're not stuck trying to hit a long iron you probably can't hit yet. You get two wedges instead of one, so you actually have a club for the bunker. And the putter is a real Odyssey, not some no-name blade they threw in to fill the box.

Now, the catch is the bag. The 2018 set didn't come with one. Some photos show the clubs sitting in a bag, but that bag wasn't part of this set. So when you see "Callaway Edge golf set with bag," that's either a seller adding their own bag or a different package. Either way, add a bag to your math before you compare prices.

You've also got room to grow. Ten clubs leaves four open spots under the 14-club limit, and the first one I'd fill is a gap wedge between the pitching wedge and sand wedge. If you want help picking one, my golf wedges guide walks through the lofts.

The Hybrid, Irons, and Odyssey Putter Are the Real Reason to Buy It

The long clubs are simple game-improvement clubs. Callaway built the driver with an oversized titanium head, a thin face, and a low, deep center of gravity, and put graphite shafts in the driver and 3-wood. That's all designed to help you get the ball in the air. It's not Callaway's premium driver tech, and it's not trying to be.

So don't buy this set for the driver. If you stick with golf, the driver is the first club I'd expect you to upgrade.

The hybrid, the irons, and the putter are a different story. The 6 through 9 irons are big cavity-back irons, the kind that are built to be easier to hit when you don't catch it perfectly. The sand wedge has a wide, rounded sole to get through sand and rough. That's exactly what a high handicapper needs.

And that Odyssey White Hot Pro putter is the standout. The White Hot insert and SuperStroke grip are better than what you usually get in a cheap package set. It's the kind of putter you keep long after the driver's gone.

Here's how I'd think about it. You're buying the bottom half of this bag. If you end up loving golf, you can swap the driver later and keep the scoring clubs that work. If you quit after a year, you didn't spend a fortune finding out.

Why the Callaway Edge Set Is So Cheap, and Which Edge You're Looking At

The Edge is cheap for a few reasons. It's a boxed package set with one fixed configuration, so nobody's custom-building it. The clubs use basic game-improvement designs, not Callaway's flagship technology. And the 2018 version is now old. Callaway's own trade-in credit for a 2018 Edge set is way below what a used one sells for. That's not a selling price, but it tells you where these sets sit today.

Now, the Costco question. If you're looking at a Callaway Edge set at Costco, that is not the 2018 set. It's a newer generation. Callaway sold an Edge set in 2018, another in 2021, and an Edge Complete Set in 2024, and it treats them as separate products with separate values. So don't use a Costco price, review, or spec sheet to judge a used 2018 listing. They're different sets.

Here's how the options stack up. Prices were checked October 10, 2026, and October 11, 2026.

2018 Callaway Edge 2024 Callaway Edge Complete Set Callaway Strata Men's 12-Piece
Status Discontinued, used only Pre-owned, in stock at Callaway Pre-Owned New
Price $335.99 listed, out of stock $629.99 $359.97 on Amazon
Real clubs 10 10 9
Sand wedge Yes Yes No
Putter Odyssey White Hot Pro Odyssey White Hot Pro Not an Odyssey
Bag No No Yes, stand bag
Callaway Strata irons laid out on a table, the new set I'd compare a used Edge against

So a used 2018 Edge only makes sense when it's clearly cheaper than those two. Once you add a bag, maybe new grips, and a gap wedge, that gap closes fast.

Here's How I'd Buy a Used Callaway Edge Set

If I were buying one used, this is exactly what I'd check.

  1. Confirm it's the 2018 set. Ask the seller for the year. Don't trust the listing title or the color of the headcovers.
  2. Count all 10 clubs. One missing hybrid or putter kills the deal.
  3. Check the flex and hand. The stock set is right-handed stiff. If you've got a slower swing, stiff shafts can make the game harder than it needs to be.
  4. Look at the driver under a bright light. Check the crown, the top line, and the edge of the face for cracks.
  5. Sight down every steel shaft. You're looking for rust and bends, especially near the grip and the hosel.
  6. Twist every head gently. Nothing should move.
  7. Check the grips and the putter insert. Hard, slick grips on 10 clubs is a regrip bill you have to add to the price.

Then do the math out loud. Used price, plus a bag, plus any grips, plus a gap wedge if you want one. If that total is well under what a new set costs, the Edge is a smart buy. If it's close, buy new.

And if you're going new, the Strata is where I'd look. The Men's 12-Piece is about $360 on Amazon right now, and it comes with a stand bag. Just know that Callaway counts the bag and headcovers as pieces, so the 12-Piece is 9 actual clubs, and there's no sand wedge. When I took the Strata out on the course, the thing I kept running into was having only a pitching wedge around the greens. You can watch that round here, and my full Callaway Strata golf clubs review breaks down every configuration.

What I Don't Love

The 2018 Edge is discontinued, and that changes everything about buying it.

You can't order it new, and you can't pick your specs. It's right-handed, stiff flex, and that's it. If you're left-handed or need a softer shaft, this isn't your set. A club shop can reshaft or adjust clubs after you buy them, but that costs money, and it defeats the point of buying a cheap set.

There's also no full spec sheet for this set. No iron lofts, no lengths, no shaft weights. If you're really tall, really short, or you already know what shafts work for you, don't buy it blind.

And the warranty won't help you much. Callaway's two-year warranty covers original purchases from an authorized retailer. Don't assume it carries over to a set you bought used off a marketplace.

Who It's For

Buy it if:

  • You're a right-handed beginner or returning golfer who can handle a stiff shaft.
  • You find all 10 clubs in good condition at a total price well under a new set.
  • You care more about a good hybrid, two wedges, and an Odyssey putter than a fancy driver.
  • You can see the clubs, or return them, before you're stuck with them.

Skip it if:

  • You need left-handed clubs, a softer flex, or custom length.
  • The seller can't tell you which Edge generation it is or can't show all 10 clubs.
  • The used price plus a bag, grips, and a wedge gets close to a new set.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the Callaway Edge golf clubs any good?

Yes, for a beginner. The 5-hybrid, cavity-back irons, two wedges, and Odyssey White Hot Pro putter are the best parts of the set. The driver is basic, and it's the first club I'd upgrade. For a low handicapper who already knows their specs, it's not the right set.

Is the Callaway Edge a beginner set?

It is. The Edge is built for beginners and high handicappers: a hybrid in place of a long iron, forgiving cavity-back irons, and a sand wedge for bunkers. Just make sure the stiff shafts in the stock 2018 set aren't too much for your swing speed.

What year did the Callaway Edge set come out?

The original Callaway Edge 10 Piece Set came out in 2018. Callaway followed it with a new Edge set in 2021 and an Edge Complete Set in 2024, and the Edge sets you see at Costco today are those newer generations, not the 2018 set.

Why is the Callaway Edge set so cheap?

It's a fixed, off-the-shelf package with basic game-improvement clubs, no bag, and no custom fitting. The 2018 set is also several years old, and Callaway's own trade-in value for it is way below a used price. That's why a used one should cost well under a new set.

Does the Callaway Edge golf set come with a bag?

The 2018 set doesn't. You get headcovers for the driver, 3-wood, hybrid, and putter, and that's it. If a listing shows a bag, the seller added it or it's a different package, so check exactly what's included before you pay.

Final Thoughts: Callaway Edge Golf Set Review

The 2018 Callaway Edge is still a good way into golf if you find a complete set at the right price. Ten real clubs, a hybrid, two wedges, and an Odyssey putter is a solid starter bag. But you're buying used, so the price has to prove it. Add a bag and whatever it needs, and if that total is close to a new Strata, buy the new set and don't look back.
