Robert Trent Jones was the mastermind behind Stumpy Lakes.  True to its name, the course meanders through the wetlands of a 1,400-acre nature preserve where you won’t see any signs of human influence.  It’s just you and nature out here.

This is target golf.  While the landing areas are generous, errant will be punished.  It might be a good idea to bring an extra sleeve of balls.

If you finish your round early enough, try your hand at catching dinner from the fishing pier or unwind with a scenic canoe ride on one of the property’s many lakes.

Bow Creek Golf Course

Bow Creek is a local’s favorite and easy to overlook.

While it only measures just south of 6,000 yards, it’s full of character and charm.  Doglegs and a demanding set of par threes ask for your very best from tee to green.

Bermuda fairways are a treat to play from and the greens roll true, but can be tricky to read.

A welcoming atmosphere and memorable round of golf await at Bow Creek.

9

Battlefield Golf Club

Battlefield Golf Club occupies a large expanse of wetlands.  Even though the course appears wide-open, it plays deceptively narrow because of the plentiful hazards.

When the wind kicks up in the afternoon, sound ball striking becomes especially important.

The greens present an equally fun challenge.  They’re undulating, and sneakily fast.

The distance between greens and tees is also substantial.  Sounds like carts are the way to go out here.

A fun, yet challenging round of golf, Battlefield sounds like the place to be.

Lampert’s Point Golf Course

If you’re short on time but still want to get out and play, Lampert’s Point is the place to do it.

This nine-hole track is a links style design that sits on the banks of the Elizabeth River.  Use the ground to get the ball where you want it to end up.  Shots that spend too much time in the air can take funky bounces when they land.

The greens are undulating too.  Pay careful attention to where the pins are located.

A unique golf experience that won’t take you all day, I can’t wait to play Lampert’s Point.

Conclusion

Clearly, there’s plenty of great golf to be found in Virginia Beach.  Along with everything else there is to do, it’s hard to be bored here.

Both locals and visitors love the variety and affordability of golf here.  Whether you fancy a seaside links, or a quiet round in the forest, you can find it at a reasonable price.

I can’t say enough about the continued support our loyal readers continue to provide as we churn out these course guides.  Their insight is invaluable.
