The Land of 10,000 Lakes.  I’ve spent some time in Minnesota.  Thankfully it’s always been in the summer when there isn’t 14 feet of snow on the ground.  As such, most of my time has been spent fishing but I have had time to squeeze in a little golf over the years.  I certainly am not going to pretend like I’m an expert when it comes to golf in this state, however.

But I know some people that are.  You guys.  After getting lots of quality feedback, I feel confident about our list of the state’s ten best public courses below.  What do you think?

The playing season is pretty short in Northern Minnesota but golfers take full advantage at Headwaters Golf Club.

Open since 1986, this course is carved out of an ancient forest of pine trees.  That means tight fairways require straight tee shots.

By late summer, the greens are notoriously firm and fast so putting uphill is essential. When you’re done with your round, relax with a beverage and delicious bite on the wraparound porch that overlooks the 18th green.

10

Tianna Country Club

For more than 90 years, Minnesotans have strolled the verdant fairways of Tianna Country Club.

Located in the heart of Lake Country, this course is yet another classic old-style design with tree lined fairways and tricky greens.

There’s nothing too crazy out here and most every hole is right in front of you.  However, precision and a deft touch are needed around these the sloped, lightning-fast greens.

A testament to designs of yesteryear, don’t overlook Tianna Country Club.

Conclusion

The golf season is shorter in Minnesota than it is elsewhere in the country.  One thing is certain though, Minnesotans take the game seriously.  That’s in large part due to the large number of great courses the state boasts.  I’ve only scratched the surface, but you can bet I’ll be back for more soon.

I continue to be astounded by how engaged our readers are in helping me write these course guides.  I thought I knew a lot about golf around the country, but I’ve been humbled to say the least.  Thanks as always and see you next time.
