Best Golf Courses in Palm Desert

Updated February 2024 to update booking information.

There’s no place on the West Coast with a larger concentration of golf courses than Palm Desert.  I suppose you could argue that Scottsdale is right up there, but I live in Scottsdale and my vote still goes to Palm Desert.  If you’re curious, just do a Google search for an aerial view of Palm Desert.  You’ll see two colors.  Desert brown and green.  Not much else.

I love Palm Desert.  I’ve spent plenty of time here and it never gets old.  My annual winter buddies’ trip is something I’ve been doing for years and there’s no sign of stopping any time soon.

As much time as I’ve spent in this desert oasis, I’ve only scratched the surface when it comes to golf.  That’s why I asked for your help.  As it turns out, there’s a lot of you that have played golf in Palm Desert.  Your insights were useful as always.

Big Rock Golf Club is a classic muni in the town of Indio.

Known for its pristine condition and excellent putting surfaces, this is a place where the everyman can enjoy quality golf.

Maybe that’s what I love most about Big Rock, the cast of characters.  Over the years, I’ve played with everyone from politicians, to plumbers, to tour pros at this facility.

Even though this place lacks the glitz and glamour of some of its country club neighbors, you’ll find everything you need here.

Date Palm Country Club

Date Palm Country Club is another course that doesn’t get as much attention as it should.

Having been around for years, Date Palm is steeped in history and tradition.

A classic, old-school design, this track’s fairways are narrow and lined by stately palms.

While keeping the ball in play is a must, the real fun begins when you get to the greens.  Their slick and subtle breaks take some time to learn.  Stay below the hole.

A great value and friendly service, don’t miss a chance to play Date Palm Country Club.

Conclusion

If you’ve never been to Palm Desert to play golf, you’ve been missing out.  Not only is there a ton of great golf to be played, most of it is affordable if you go at the right time of year.

As I write this guide, my buddies’ trip is only a few weeks away.  I’m giddy with excitement.

I continue to be astounded by all the support and input I continue to receive as I crank out these course guides.  This guide is no exception.  If you have additional input about golf in Palm Desert, feel free to share with the rest of us in the comments below.
