Best Golf Courses in New Hampshire

Updated February 2024 to update booking information.

It appears that the course guides I keep writing are a hit.  In no way am I tooting my own horn.  Even though I’ve played plenty of golf across the nation, I’m in no position to call myself an authority on every locale I write about.

Thankfully, you guys take an active interest and are willing to help me out.  Your input is integral and useful for our ever-growing audience.

With that being said, we went through the process again of soliciting advice about the best public golf courses in New Hampshire.

I’ve played a little golf in this state, but it’s been a minute.  Many of our readers have though.

So, let’s not waste anymore time and dive right in.

The more and more I hear about golf in New Hampshire, the more it becomes apparent just how much of an influence Donald Ross had on golf in this state.

Another sparkling example of his work is Crotched Mountain Golf Club.

Known for being in spectacular condition, you won’t ever find a bad lie here.

Offering views of the surrounding Monadnock countryside, it’s hard to stay focused on your game.

Truly one of the best conditioned courses in New Hampshire, I’m putting Crotched Mountain on my list.

Hale’s Location Golf Course

Golf Magazine called Hale’s Location “One of the most unique and singularly beautiful golf developments in the country.”  That’s some pretty high praise.

Locals say playing here is an experience unlike anything else in the whole state.

While the course isn’t overly difficult, it’s flat out fun to play and offers some of the most spectacular mountain views in North America.

With that being said, the course isn’t a pushover.  Hazards come into play on a number of holes and strategic bunkers protect most greens.

Hale’s Location is both affordable and fun to play.

Ridgewood Country Club

Right in the middle of the state, you’ll find Ridgewood Country Club.

This track is the story of two different nines.  The outward half is narrow and requires accuracy off the tee and on approach shots.  The back nine is a little longer but allows you to play more aggressively.

Known for being among the lushest courses in the state, players rave about Ridgewood’s condition.

And the staff are exceptionally welcoming by all accounts.  This is something that seems to stand out for everyone.

Great service, exceptional layout, at a fair price?  I’m in.

Waukewan Golf Club

Maybe the best value to be had in New Hampshire is Waukewan Golf Club.

The course sits on the site of an old cattle farm and remnants of the former property can still be seen today.

The layout is straightforward, but not as easy as it looks on paper.  The shot values are fair, and you’ll use every club in your bag.

Subtle elevation changes make for some tricky lies so be ready to adapt.

Even though this course is only nine holes, it’s hard to beat in terms of value and experience.

Conclusion

New Hampshire isn’t a big state in terms of size.  However, it’s rich with geographic diversity and that’s reflected in its many venerable golf courses.

Even though I haven’t ventured to New Hampshire as of late, my memories are fond, and I can’t wait to get back.

More than you know, I appreciate your continued input with these public course guides.  If you have additional thoughts to add, please let us know in the comments below.
