When I first reviewed the Vessel VLS, I called it the Ferrari of golf bags, and I meant it. But Vessel doesn't sell it anymore, so here's how I'd buy one used, and the Vessel bag I'd buy new instead.

Is the Vessel VLS Stand Bag worth buying?
Here's what you need to know first. The VLS came out in 2021. It was Vessel's lightweight stand bag, and when I had it in my hands, Vessel was calling it the lightest stand bag they'd made to date.
And it's gone. Vessel's current stand bag lineup doesn't have a VLS in it, and the old VLS page on Vessel's site now sends you to the Lux Stand. That's the bag Vessel points you to today. But it's a newer bag, not the VLS with a new name.
So this review does two jobs. I'll show you what made the VLS so good and how to buy one used without getting burned. Then I'll tell you which Vessel bag I'd buy new, depending on what you loved about the VLS.
Quick Overview
- What it is: Vessel's lightweight walking stand bag, launched in 2021.
- Weight: 4.2 pounds, light enough that you can hold it out with one hand.
- How it carries: a four-point EQ2 double strap, a molded neoprene hip pad, and Vessel's Rotator stand with carbon fiber legs.
- Storage: six pockets, including a cooler-lined bottle sleeve, a velour valuables pouch, and a matching nylon rain hood.
- Status: discontinued. Buy used, or buy Vessel's current Lux Stand new.

This is Vessel's current Lux Stand, the model to buy new now. The VLS isn't sold anymore, and Vessel's old VLS page sends you here. It's a different bag, with 14 pockets, a cart strap pass-through, and a warranty.

This is my Vessel VLS video from when the bag was new. It's the bag this review is about, not the Lux Stand.
At 4.2 Pounds, the VLS Carries Like You're Barely Wearing It
The VLS is light, and the strap and hip pad make it feel even lighter on your back.
When I first picked it up, I could tell just by holding it. You can hold it out with one hand and you're not really fighting the weight. It comes in at 4.2 pounds, and for me that was a big check, because I want something super light when I walk.
A lot of that comes from the material. The VLS is heavy-backed nylon twill, not leather or fake leather. It's more like a jacket material, shiny and weather resistant, and it keeps the weight down compared to a leather-look bag.
Then there's the strap. Vessel's four-point EQ2 double strap has two fixation points up top and two down near the pockets, with the middle section sitting across your chest. It's easy to get on and off, and with four points holding a four-pound bag, it feels even lighter. It's not hanging off one shoulder. It just sits in place.
And there's a compression-molded neoprene hip pad on the side of the bag. The way I described it in my video, it's almost like a soccer shin guard. It's thick, so when the bag is pushing against your body, you don't feel a zipper or any hard piece digging in. You just feel a soft pad.
If you walk 18 and you've ever finished a round with a sore shoulder, that's the combo you want.
The Rotator Stand Keeps It Steady When You Set It Down
The VLS stands flat and stable because the whole base moves when the legs come out.
Vessel calls it the Rotator stand system. When you push down on the bag and the legs pop out, the base plate comes down flush with the ground. When you pick the bag back up, it swings back to a more vertical position. So instead of the bag balancing on an edge, one side is sitting flat on the ground, and that's what keeps it steady.
The legs are carbon fiber, and they look great. Mine had the red base and the red carbon legs, and it just looks like a high-quality piece of gear.
Up top, you get a four-way top with full-length, enclosed dividers, so your clubs have their own channels all the way down and they're not tangling. The tops of the dividers are mesh lined, which keeps your club heads from slapping into each other and holds them secure.
That's a lot of structure for a 4.2-pound bag. You're not giving up a full-length divider system just to save weight, and that's why this bag worked so well for a golfer who carries.
Six Pockets, and Every One of Them Has a Job
The VLS has six pockets, and they're built around exactly what you carry when you walk.
Here's the tour from my review:
- Side pocket: quick-grab stuff, like a glove or tees.
- Front pouch: a big open pocket, and that's where I keep my balls. The front face is Velcro with a zipper, so you can take it off and get it embroidered.
- Valuables pouch: velour lined and antimicrobial, so it's super soft and nothing grows in there. Phone, wallet, keys, anything you want safe.
- Garment pocket: a big side pocket for rain gear, and it's where the rain hood lives.
- Top pocket: also velour lined. I always put my tees in there. Vessel lists the magnetic rangefinder pocket in this layout too.
- Bottle sleeve: hidden on the side with a magnetic closure, and it's cooler lined inside.
That bottle sleeve is my favorite thing on the bag. A pocket for a cold drink on a hot day is just smart.
A few extras I liked too. The rain hood matches the outside material of the bag exactly, so it looks sleek instead of like some heavy hood from a different bag. There's a hook-and-loop umbrella holder with a loop at the bottom, so your umbrella stays put. And there's a pen holder. I'll admit it's kind of cheesy, but I always think it's cool to have a pen right there for your scorecard.
The VLS Is Discontinued, So Here's How I'd Buy One Now
You can only buy the VLS used, so either check a used one hard or buy a current Vessel bag new.
If you've got your heart set on a VLS, here's what I'd check before I paid:
- Confirm it's the standard VLS. It's the nylon twill bag, not the leather-look VLS Lux or the newer Lux Stand.
- Deploy the stand a bunch of times. The base should swing flat and the carbon legs should come out clean every time.
- Check the leg hardware and the base. Look for cracks or loose pieces where the legs meet the bag.
- Run every zipper. All six pockets, end to end.
- Check the strap. Make sure the EQ2 double strap and all four clips are there and adjust properly.
- Ask about the rain hood. It matches the bag, and it's easy to lose.
Then compare the price with a new Vessel bag. If the used VLS isn't a lot cheaper than a new one with a warranty, buy new. Here's how I'd pick.

Prices checked October 12, 2026.
If you want the bag Vessel points VLS buyers to, get the Lux Stand. Vessel had the Lux Stand at $399 on October 12, 2026. Vessel built it by combining the VLS's function with the VLS Lux's details and an upgraded base. It has 14 pockets, including an internal lock pocket, velour-lined full-length dividers, two cooler-lined bottle sleeves, and a cart strap pass-through, so it works on a riding cart too. It weighs 5.7 pounds. But when I had it out on the course, after nine holes I forgot all about the weight. And you get Vessel's one-year warranty on a new bag.

If you want a 14-way top in a light bag, get the Player Air. On October 12, 2026, the Vessel Player Air was $379 on Vessel's site, and the 6-way body is 4.45 pounds, with a 14-way option. It keeps the Rotator stand, the carbon legs, and Vessel's Equilibrium 2.0 double strap. It's built for walkers who never ride, because Vessel doesn't list a cart strap pass-through on it.
What I Don't Love
The biggest problem with the VLS today is simple: you can't buy it new.
That means no new-bag warranty for this model. You're buying condition, so every sticky zipper, tired strap, or worn stand part is on you.
It has waterproof zippers, but the bag itself is weather resistant, not waterproof. If you play in a lot of rain, keep that hood on.
And it's a walking bag first. You can set it on a cart, but it wasn't designed around a riding cart. If you ride most of the time, the Lux Stand's cart pass-through is the better fit.

This is Vessel's current Lux Stand, the model to buy new now. The VLS isn't sold anymore, and Vessel's old VLS page sends you here. It's a different bag, with 14 pockets, a cart strap pass-through, and a warranty.
Buy at VesselWho It's For
Buy it if:
- You walk most rounds and want a premium bag that weighs about 4.2 pounds.
- You find a clean used VLS, with its rain hood, for well under the price of a new Vessel bag.
- You want a four-way top with full-length dividers without carrying a heavy bag.
- You loved the cooler-lined bottle sleeve and the velour valuables pouch.
Skip it if:
- You want a new bag with a warranty. Buy the Vessel Lux Stand.
- You ride a cart most of the time.
- You play a lot of rounds in heavy rain.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Vessel VLS stand bag discontinued?
Yes. Vessel's current stand bag lineup doesn't include the standard VLS, and the old VLS page on Vessel's site now redirects to the Lux Stand. You can still find a VLS used or as old stock, but you can't buy it new from Vessel.
What replaced the Vessel VLS stand bag?
Vessel points VLS buyers to the Lux Stand, which combines the VLS's function with the VLS Lux's details and an upgraded base. It's a different bag, though: 5.7 pounds, 14 pockets, and Vessel had the Lux Stand at $399 on October 12, 2026.
How much does the Vessel VLS weigh?
The Vessel VLS weighs 4.2 pounds. That's light for a stand bag with a four-way, full-length divider top, six pockets, and a double strap. For comparison, the current Lux Stand is 5.7 pounds.
Is the Vessel VLS waterproof?
No. It's weather resistant with waterproof zippers, but the whole bag isn't waterproof. The nylon twill handles light weather, and it comes with a matching nylon rain hood. If you play in heavy rain, use the hood and don't count on the bag keeping everything dry by itself.
Can you use the Vessel VLS on a push cart or riding cart?
You can set it on a cart, but it's a walking bag first and it wasn't built around a cart. If you ride or push a cart most rounds, the Vessel Lux Stand is the better pick because it has a cart strap pass-through with a matching sleeve.
Final Thoughts: Vessel VLS Stand Bag Review
When I reviewed the VLS, I said it might just be one of the best lightweight stand bags on the market, and I didn't think that was hype. If you find a clean used one with its rain hood at the right price, grab it. If you want a new bag and a warranty, buy the Vessel Lux Stand for storage and cart use, or the Player Air if light weight is what you loved about the VLS.
