There’s no question that the game of golf has become all about distance.  Not only does everyone want to hit the ball farther, it’s become a must as courses have become longer.  The major manufacturers know this too.  Every year they come out with new drivers that are loaded with the latest technology and design features, all aimed at helping golfers get more distance  off the tee.

While this might be the case, the average drive distance for male golfers has actually decreased by a yard since 2005.  That’s right.  On average, golfers have lost distance over the last 15 years despite continued advances in technology.

The folks at Teton golf recognized this trend that no one likes to talk about, and set out to find a solution.  Their answer was the HxD Oversized Hybrid Driver.

Let’s take a closer look.

Teton HxD Oversized Hybrid Driver Detailed Review

Design and Technology

The Teton XhD is just what it sounds like, an oversized hybrid.

The shaft is considerably shorter than most driver shafts at just 42.5”.  This gets you closer to the golf ball at address and as a result, you have a lot more control.

The head is shaped like a traditional hybrid, just a much larger version.  The toe also sits higher than most hybrids.  This increases the clubface’s surface area, providing even more forgiveness on mishits.

Our Experience

When I first heard about the Teton XhD Oversized Hybrid Driver, I thought it was just another club that showed up on late night infomercials on Golf Channel.

It wasn’t until I got my hands on this club myself that my perception changed.

While Teton XhD doesn’t fly quite as far as my driver, I hit it remarkably straight.  The shorter shaft allowed me a lot more control and I felt confident standing over the ball.

The shape of the head took some getting used to, but the large face provided plenty of forgiveness.

While I might not replace my normal driver with this club day in and day out, you can bet it will be in my bag any time there’s a premium on finding fairways.

Conclusion

It’s baffling that the average golfer has lost distance over the last couple of years despite such tremendous advances in technology.

The Teton XhD Oversized Hybrid Driver solves a lot of the consistency issues that most golfers face off the tee.  That’s thanks to its shorter length and oversized, forgiving clubhead.

While you might not hit this club as far as that rare perfect shot with your driver, you’re sure to find more consistency day in and day out.  As a result, you’ll be spending more time in the fairway and shoot lower scores.
