You’re not going to find these irons in the bags of the best players in the world. If Tour Pros were to hit these clubs, they’d hit pitching wedge 200 yards, no problem. That’s just too far. The Sim2 OS Max Irons are meant for high handicap golfers and beginners that need all the distance and forgiveness they can get. They’re also great for golfers with slower swing speeds, or that need help getting the ball in the air. Simply put, if there’s an ultimate game improvement iron on the market, the Sim2 OS Max is it.

If there’s one thing TaylorMade is known for above all else, it’s making golf clubs that go a long way.  While that’s especially true of their drivers, their game improvement irons are hotter than Death Valley in July too.

In this article, we’re going to take a deep dive into the all-new Sim2 OS Max Irons.

Of all the irons in the Sim2 family, the Sim2 OS Max Irons are the most forgiving by far.  They’re also some of the longest game improvement irons on the market too.

More forgiveness, AND more distance?  Sounds like a winning combination to me.

Let’s have a closer look at what makes these clubs some of the best in their class.

Key Features

  • Strong lofts allow golfers to get maximum distance out of their irons.
  • Cap Back Design’s multi-material construction increases distance, forgiveness, and feel.
  • Thru-S;lot Speed Pocket features an intelligently positioned sweet spot that gives golfers greater forgiveness on off-center strikes.

Design and Technology

In the last decade, I don’t think TaylorMade has made a club that wasn’t loaded with the latest and greatest design and technology.

The discussion starts with Cap Back Design that utilizes multi-material construction to support the club from the heel to toe across the top.  Not only does this design feature provide stability, it assists in distance and improves feel and sound too.

Speaking of sound and feel, the all-new Echo Damping System employs a soft polymer blend of contact points across the clubface to minimize harsh vibrations on mishits.  Some golfers even say these cast, game improvement irons feel like forged clubs.

We’ve already made it clear that the faces of the Sim2 OS Max Irons are fast and forgiving.  What’s even more is that Inverted Cone Technology intelligently expands the sweet spot to places on the clubface where golfers commonly experience mishits.

TaylorMade’s Thru-Slot Speed Pocket has been around for a while, and it’s proven to work.  In the Sim2 OS Max Irons, it increases face flexion at impact which results in. . . you guessed it, fast ball speeds and more distance.

Lastly, the CG in these irons is set exceptionally low.  The result is a ball flight that’s high, yet penetrating.

Our Experience

A couple of the higher handicaps in my regular group have the TaylorMade Sim2 OS Max Irons in their bag.  I can tell you these irons make all the difference in the world for these cats.  Not only has their iron play become more consistent, their distance has increased exponentially too.

I’ve had the chance to hit these irons as well, and I must admit, they’re some of the hottest game improvement clubs I’ve ever put my hands on.

I was particularly impressed with the feel and sound of the Sim2 OS Max Irons.  Whereas most game improvement clubs sound loud and feel hard, it was quite the opposite with these.

While these clubs might not be perfect for my personal game, it’s easy to see why they’re so popular with golfers that seek ultimate distance, forgiveness, and consistency all in one club.

Conclusion

It seems like every time I write a review about a TaylorMade golf club, I spend more time talking about technology than anything else.

That’s certainly the case with the Sim2 Max OS Irons.

While TaylorMade has never been afraid to push the envelope when it comes to technology, they’ve proven time and again they know what they’re doing.

If you’re looking for maximum performance and consistency in your next set of irons, give the TaylorMade Sim2 OS Max Irons a go.  I think you’ll be pretty impressed with what you find.
