Project X Hzrdus Black Shaft Review
The HZRDUS Black shaft is one of the most demanding shafts on the market. This shaft is made for golfers with extremely high swings speeds and violent transitions from backswing to downswing. The HZRDUS Black can be a cure for players looking to reduce some launch and dial in spin rates with their driver. However, this shaft can feel like a load to manage for weaker players. Extremely fast swingers should test the HZRDUS Black because it could be exactly what they are looking for to help augment their control and consistency with their driver.
The HZRDUS family of golf shafts has been introduced by Project X for the strong and aggressive golfer. The HZRDUS Black shaft is for players who have a fast transition and need maximum stability in their golf shafts. Played on Tour by Dustin Johnson, the HZRDUS Black is renowned for its ability to stand up to even the hardest swinging players. A reinforced mid-section helps HZRDUS Black to reduce launch and lower spin for aggressive swingers. This low-launch, low-spin shaft is perfect for players looking for more control during their driver swings.
Key Features
- HZRDUS Black is promising more stability and improved control from a stiffer mid-section in the shaft.
- The entire shaft profile has been strengthened to promote more power and response at very high swing speeds.
- Made for drivers, fairway woods, and hybrids, the HZRDUS Black golf shaft can be built into many spots within high swing speed player’s bags.
Project X HZRDUS Black Shaft Detailed Review
Design and Technology
Project X has a reputation for making golf shafts that fit high swing speed players and aggressive golfers. HZRDUS Black continues this trend by giving players one of the most stable golf shafts available. A larger wall layer throughout the entire length of the shaft gives more power and consistency to players who make quick transitions during the start of the downswing. Handcrafted versions are available to ensure that weight and flex tolerances are delivered with Tour-level precision.
I played the HZRDUS Black in a fairway for a full season before making the switch back into my Graphite Design. I played the 75-gram X-stiff model in an M2 fairway. I loved the stability of the HZRDUS Black and felt comfortable playing the shaft the entire season. The lack of feel is the only thing that moved me out of the shaft and is also the chief complaint among players who test HZRDUS Black. I have a smoother transition, so I do not believe that the HZRDUS Black shaft is built for me, but I still stand by the performance of Project X in the right player’s hands.
The HZRDUS Black is an outstanding golf shaft made from high-quality materials. Aggressive players who are quick to transition from their backswing into their downswing will feel comfortable loading this shaft. Smoother swinging players, however, will likely enjoy the response of HZRDUS Yellow or slightly less rigid counterparts.
Specs
HZRDUS Black is available in two weight ranges and three flexes. The Project X flex system uses numbers to denote flex. A scale of 5.0 to 7.0 is used to mark flexes between regular and Tour-extra-stiff. The HZRDUS Black comes in 60- and 70-gram weights with 5.5, 6.0, and 6.5 flexes, regular+, stiff, and extra-stiff respectively. Each model is designed with a high kick point and ultra-low launch and low spin.
Conclusion
Project X delivers on its promise to create a golf shaft that will stand up to any swing speed. Even the most violent swinging golfer will find great stability and control with the HZRDUS Black shaft. The HZRDUS Black is one of the lowest launching and lowest spinning golf shafts in production and can be great for players who just cannot shed excess spin off the tee.
