Updated February 2024 to update current pricing information.

For all too long, golfers only associated Mizuno with premium player’s irons.  The MP33s come to mind with their sleek finish, tiny blade, and zero offset.  Catch one of these clubs on the sweet spot and it’s like nothing else you’ve ever felt.  But mishit a shot just by a little, and you’re going to know it.

While the company still makes some of the finest advanced clubs in the game, they now have a reputation for making quality clubs that anyone can play, even mid to high handicappers.

The JPX921 Hot Metal Irons are a prime example.  These are game improvement clubs that are loaded with the latest technology and design features sure to help you get the most out of your game.

Key Features

  • Reengineered CORETECH face delivers explosive ball speed for maximum distance.
  • Extra perimeter weighting with toe bias adds forgiveness and stability.
  • Variable thickness sole improves turf interaction and increases face flex for faster ball speeds.

Who Should Buy the Mizuno JPX921 Hot Metal Irons?

The Mizuno JPX921 Hot Metal Irons aren’t meant for advanced players looking to optimize feel, control, and playability.  The company makes plenty of other quality irons for this type of player.

Instead, this iteration of the JPX921s is meant for players looking for maximum distance and forgiveness.  This is the type of player that has trouble getting the ball in the air, making solid contact, and wants more distance out of their irons.

If the latter sounds like you and you haven’t yet hit the JPX921s, you’re missing out.

Design and Technology

Just because the JPX921s are a game improvement iron doesn’t mean they look clunky or obtuse.  Sure, they don’t have the same sleek profile of Mizuno irons meant for more advanced players.  But when you set them behind the ball, they inspire plenty of confidence without looking too foreign.  In fact, you’ll notice minimal offset compared to a lot of other game improvement clubs.

The heads of the JPX921s are made of Chromolgy metal that’s some of the hottest, yet most responsive in the game.  Coupled with a face that’s thinner than previous models and you’ve got an iron that feels great on both solid shots and mishits.  Players also say this metal delivers a much quieter sound than other game improvement irons.

If you’re especially in need of more distance from your irons, the JPX921s are a great choice.  Their lofts are a lot stronger than other irons.  Even though they launch a little lower, golfers haven’t had many problems generating enough spin to hold greens.

The variable thickness sole of these irons has also been reengineered.  Added relief on the leading edge keeps the club from digging so fat shots aren’t as penal.  This design also allows the face to flex more at impact which increases COR.  That means fast ball speeds and more distance.

Our Experience

I’ve long been a fan of Mizuno clubs.  Years ago, it was because I admired their clubs meant for better players.  They looked sexy, felt great, and were far too advanced for a weekend warrior like me to hit.

Since the JPX line of irons were first introduced in 2018 however, I’ve become more and more a fan of their game improvement irons that are more suited for players like me, and many of our Golfer’s Authority readers.

The JPX921s seem longer to me than previous models.  That’s probably due to the extra thin face and variable sole.

Whereas a lot of game improvement irons sound loud and feel hard, such wasn’t the case with these irons.  The feel was solid, yet soft.  And the sound was very much the same.

Overall, a well-built iron that stands to benefit anyone looking for something in the game improvement iron category.
