Updated February 2024 to update current pricing information.

It hasn’t been until recently that Srixon has made a name for itself as a top-level club manufacturer.  With that said, they’ve carved out a nice niche in the market among a loyal segment of the golf population that comprises players of all abilities.

The company’s latest innovations are the ZX5 and ZX7 drivers.

Key Features

  • Rebound Frame Technology returns increased energy into the golf ball at impact for more ball speed and greater distance.
  • Lightweight carbon crown is 15% lighter than previous models.  This lowers CG and increases MOI for higher launch conditions and more forgiveness.
  • Weight ports in both drivers allow for individual optimization of CG.  Adjustable hosels allow players to dial in loft, lie, and face angle.

Who Should Buy the Srixon ZX5 and ZX7 Drivers?

The latest editions of Srixon’s ZX drivers are designed for players of all playing abilities.  The ZX5 is touted for its forgiveness and unbelievable ball speed.  This is the perfect club for anyone looking for both more distance and forgiveness.

The ZX7 offers a little more adjustability and is geared toward the better player who’s looking for more control.

Srixon ZX5 and ZX7 Driver Detailed Review

Design and Technology

When Srixon introduced it’s first series of drivers, popular opinion held that they lacked the technological innovation and design features of the game’s most popular drivers.

The company has certainly come a long way since those early days and that’s evidenced by all the cool stuff to be found in both the ZX5 and ZX7 drivers.

Srixon ZX5 Driver

The feature that stands out most in the ZX5 driver is the incorporation of Rebound Frame Technology.  Instead of having weights and the heel and toe of the club for added stability, the ZX5 features a single weight at the back of the club that golfers say makes it one of the most stable heads on the market through impact.  Another benefit is higher MOI for increased forgiveness.

A weight port in the sole of the club allows golfers to easily dial in CG and swing weight for optimal launch conditions and performance.  Combined with the ability to adjust loft, lie, and face angle in the hosel, this is easy to fit and adjust on the fly.

Srixon ZX7 Driver

Touted as the “Tour Driver”.  That starts with a head shape that’s flatter and shallower than drivers geared toward higher handicaps.  The result is a classic shape that inspires confidence and control.

The ZX7 is also much lower spinning than its counterpart, the ZX5.  The result is much lower launch conditions that better players prefer.

This driver isn’t short on adjustability either.  It features two weight ports that can be customized to produce just about any ball flight.  Same story as the ZX5 when it comes to hosel adjustability as well.

Specs

Both the ZX5 and ZX7 drivers come in lofts of 9.5 and 10.5 degrees.  Length is 45.25” for both.

Stock shaft options for the ZX5 are the Project X EvenFlow Riptide and HZRDUS Smoke Black available in regular, stiff, and extra stiff flex.

The stock shaft for the ZX7 is the HZRDUS Smoke Black in regular, stiff, and extra stiff.

Our Experience

I’ve been fortunate to hit both drivers and I have to say, the ZX7 is definitely meant for better players.  While it’s not nearly as forgiving, you can just tell that good ball strikers start salivating with the thing in their hands.  It’s little wonder it’s the most popular Srixon driver on the PGA Tour.

For recreational players like me, the ZX5 is a different story entirely.  It’s high launching and tremendously forgiving.  I was more than impressed with this club’s adjustability options and stable feeling through the hitting area.

Conclusion

For years, Srixon has produced some of the best golf balls to be found anywhere.  Only recently have they reputedly stepped into the driver space.

While they might not have been around forever, all factors seem to indicate they’re here to stay.  That certainly seems to be the case with both the ZX5 and ZX7 drivers.  Plenty of proven technology and aesthetically pleasing design features make these clubs suitable for anyone wanting more consistency, forgiveness, and distance off the tee.
