For as long as I can remember, Titleist has been known as THE premier good player’s brand. From the Pro V1, to Vokey wedges, and irons that perform on another level, Titleist sits in a league of its own.
While that might be the case, the company’s reputation for manufacturing quality drivers has slipped in the last few years. It’s not that they were bad, just that they weren’t as well received as other Titleist equipment.
Whatever went wrong seems to be corrected with the TSI family of drivers. Believe it or not, Titleist drivers were the most played driver at last year’s U.S. Open. Today, we’ll be talking specifically about the TSI2 and TSI3 models.

Who Should Buy the Titleist TSI2 and TSI3 Drivers?
Titleist drivers have long been preferred by better players, but the company has succeeded in appealing to the masses with the TSI family of drivers.
Specifically, the TSI2 driver is geared toward players looking for low spin, high launch, and maximum forgiveness on mishits. We can call this driver the game improvement driver of the two.
The TSI3, on the other hand, is considered more of a player’s club due to its compact head and low, penetrating ball flight. This club might be the preferred choice for players with fast swing speeds looking for control.

Design and Technology
It was never the case that Titleist needed to go back to the drawing board when it came to driver design and innovation. It was more that they needed to refine what they knew already worked.
That’s what we find in the tech and design features of the TSI2 and TSI3 drivers.
The tech in both clubs starts with three letters: A, T, and I. ATI is a U.S. metals company based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania that specializes in military metallurgy. Titleist partnered with the company to come up with what’s called ATI 425 Titanium insert that’s both stronger and more elastic than the titanium used in drivers of the past.
The result has been faster ball speeds and noticeable increases in distances on both solid shots and mishits.
Both drivers have a CG that’s deeper in the head as well. This has resulted in higher MOI for more forgiveness, and high launch conditions (especially in the TSI2).
One of the most underrated features of both drivers is their adjustability. Titleist is famous for the adjustability of its woods, but these drivers take it to another level. Loft, lie angle, and curve bias can all be adjusted on the Surefit hosel with the simple twist of a wrench.
Specs
Both the TSI2 and TSI3 come in standard lofts of eight, nine, and 10 degrees. The head size for both drivers is 460cc. The lie angle is 58.5 degrees and length is 45.5”.
Stock shaft options for both drivers are the Kuro Kage Black DC 5G SFW in regular, stiff, and extra stiff flex; the Tensei AV Blue SFW in regular, stiff and extra stiff flex; the HZRDUS Smoke Black RDX in regular, stiff, and extra stiff flex; and the Tensei AV White Raw in stiff and extra stiff flex.
Our Experience
I was fortunate to hit the Titleist TSI2 driver not all that long ago. I can attest that the ATI 425 Titanium face is one of the hotter faces on the market. On the launch monitor, I noticed both increased ball speed and distance compared to the driver I currently play.
I was also impressed with the ease of adjustability with this club. While it takes some time to learn the Titleist adjustment chart, once you figure it out, it’s a piece of cake. In a matter of minutes, I was able to optimize the settings for my individual swing.
One of our writers had the chance to hit the TSI3. As a longtime Titleist driver loyalist, he was impressed by the workability and control this club afforded. He was able to move the ball both directions with ease, while controlling trajectory. While he’s the first to admit the TSI3 isn’t the most forgiving driver around, he maintains it’s a great choice for better players.
