Bushnell Wingman Mini GPS Speaker Review

Product is rated as #184 in category Apparel & Accessories

Music on the golf course is a relatively new trend, but it’s one that’s here to stay. And it’s one that I’ve fully embraced. For the longest time, I just couldn’t find a speaker to suit my needs. That was until I came across the Bushnell Wingman Mini. Not only does that speaker put out one heck of a quality sound, it’s easy to use, and even gives me yardages! If that’s not a winning combination, I’m not sure what is.

I don’t know about you, but music is pretty much a constant for me.  If I’m working on Golfer’s Authority stuff in my office, there’s a good chance something calm and smooth is playing in the background.  If I’m taking the kids to school, well, it could be anything on the radio.  And within the last couple of years, music has been ever present on the golf course too.  In fact, it feels weird if I’m playing with my buddies and we don’t have music going.

The problem I had when I first started playing music on the course though was that all I had was Spotify on my iPhone.  The sound just wasn’t loud enough to project, so it was more or less an exercise in futility.

I tried a few different speakers, and most of them were ok, but I couldn’t find one I really liked. . . Until I came across the Bushnell Wingman Mini GPS speaker.

Not only is this speaker super compact, but it puts out a crystal-clear sound that can be heard across the fairway.  And, it even has built-in GPS that gives me yardages!  Does it get any better than that?

Well, it actually does.  Keep reading and I’ll tell you why.

Who Should Buy the Bushnell Wingman Mini GPS Speaker?

A lot of the speakers I tried out before I found the Wingman Mini were big and bulky.  For the rounds when I rode in a cart, this wasn’t a big deal.  But on days when I wanted to walk, I had trouble finding a place to put them where they could still be heard.

What’s great about the Wingman Mini is that it’s perfect for golfers that like to walk or ride.  Its compact design can clip onto a loop on your golf bag via a carabiner, or to the metal frame of a golf cart with an internal magnet.

Regardless of your ability and seriousness as a golfer, the Wingman Mini is perfect for anyone that enjoys tunes out on the course.

Design and Technology

Even though the Wingman Mini is small in stature, it’s jam-packed with cool tech and features.

Perhaps most notable are the 38,000 preloaded courses the Wingman Mini comes with.  This almost entirely eliminates the hassle of having to download courses every time you play someplace new.  The GPS’s auto course recognition feature means all you have to do is turn it on when you get to the course, and you’re ready to play.

When you put the Wingman Mini in your bag, you can ditch your rangefinder.  With the simple push of the “B” button, the speaker will auditorily let you know how far you have to the front, middle, and back of every green.

One of my favorite features of the Wingman Mini are the customizable first tee introductions and sound bites.  This creates a really fun dynamic within my regular group and is something not offered by any other speaker on the market.

The only hesitation I had about buying the Wingman Mini was how small it is, and my propensity for losing stuff on the golf course.  That worry was quickly eliminated when I was able to secure it to a golf cart via the integrated Bite magnet.  Even going over rough terrain (where I hit a lot of tee shots), I’ve never had an issue with the speaker falling off.

And on days when I like to walk, the carabiner clip attaches easily to my golf bag and has yet to come loose.

Some of the guys in my weekly group were so impressed when I brought out the Wingman Mini, they went out and bought it for themselves.  Now, whenever we’re paired together, we can play the same music on multiple speakers thanks to TWS Technology.  Here again, another feature not found with other speakers.

If you decide to buy the Wingman Mini, I highly recommend downloading the Bushnell Golf app.  It opens up a host of additional benefits, provides you with data to help improve your game, and makes updating the device a seamless process.

Despite so many features and advanced technological capabilities, the Wingman Mini is a piece of cake to operate.

Specs

The Wingman Mini measures 4” high, by 3.23” wide, by 1.57” deep.  It weighs just 6 ounces.

The speaker is rated IPX7 waterproof.

It operates off a lithium-ion battery and a single charge can last up to 12 hours.

Our Experience

As you can probably tell by now, I’m ecstatic about the Bushnell Wingman Mini.  It’s done nothing but enhance my on-course experience for the better.

While the sound quality alone is impressive, I really enjoy the customized first tee introductions sound bites.  They get played regularly in my group.

Lastly, the fact that all I have to do is push a button to get yardages makes life a lot easier.  And it eliminates the need to carry a rangefinder which is one less thing I can lose!

In short, I’m a huge fan of this GPS speaker.
