What to Consider When Buying Grips for Sweaty Hands

Size

Just like any grip you buy, it’s important to be sure the grips are the right size for your hands.  If your grips are too big or too small, they can cause you to make unnecessary compensations in your golf swing that lead to poor shots and inconsistency.

As a general rule of thumb, golfers with large hands prefer larger grips.  Smaller grips are best for people with small hands like ladies or juniors. The best golf grips will provide you with great shock absorption while you swing.

Soft vs. Firm

The materials grips are made of today vary greatly. Most of the grips are made from rubber material in them. Some grips are soft and squishy.  Others are firm cord grip and allow you to grip the golf club a little tighter. The choice between soft and firm grips is entirely a personal choice.

However, you might want to keep in mind that softer rubber grips tend to wear out quicker and aren’t as resistant to moisture or sweaty hands.

Looks

As we’ve discussed in other articles, a huge part of playing your best golf is being confident.  You’re most confident when you look good and feel good.  It’s no different when it comes to best golf grips.

If you don’t like the way a grip looks when you’re holding the golf club, it’s not the right grip for you. Most of them come in different colors.

Cost

Even though grips aren’t the most expensive piece of golf equipment you can buy, some of them aren’t cheap.  If you’re looking to regrip all your clubs, the cost will likely be over $100 after install. The cost for each individual grip can range from as little as $3 or $4, all the way up to $18 or $20.  For this reason, you should buy your grips in bulk.  More often than not, retailers will offer discounts when you purchase multiple grips at a time.

If you’re up for it, you can save money by installing your grips yourself.  All you need is a vice, double-sided grip tape, a knife and can of mineral spirits.  If you decide to go this route, make sure you do some research and know what you’re doing.

sweaty hand grips

Conclusion

Sweaty hands are going to be part of reality for any golfer at some point.  Sure, some people’s hands sweat more than others but, it’s something we all deal with.

That doesn’t mean moisture on your hands and grips has to wreck your great round though.  With a little good research on the front end, you’ll find that there’s plenty of grips out there to keep your hands from slipping.  Some of them have cord and rubber material on the larger lower hand. Corded grips can be used without gloves. Corded grips are loved by many golfers. So, even on the hottest of days when your buddies can’t seem to hang onto the club, you’ll have the confidence you need to keep striping it down the fairway. Most of them are available in different sizes and colors.
