Titleist Vokey SM8 Wedges

SM8 features a reimagined progressive center of gravity, which produces the most accurate and forgiving Titleist Vokey golf wedge yet. Using tungsten weights and varied hosel lengths, the Vokey wedges R&D team has moved the center of gravity outside of the golf wedge head and placed it in front of the face, resulting in increased MOI and exceptional feel. For the golfer, this means optimized ball flight, nice turf interaction and a club face that simply wants to square up at impact. SM8 accomplishes all of this while preserving the classic Vokey wedge head shape players demand. These Vokey wedges use true temper dynamic gold shafts.

SM8 wedge grooves are meticulously engineered through a proprietary Milled Spin technology to maximize spin and durability. The process starts by cutting the face perfectly flat with a high speed saw. Then every groove is individually cut based on loft and finish; low lofts (46°-54°) are designed with narrower, deeper grooves, while higher lofts and high bounce(56°-62°) have wider, shallower grooves similar to quad cut grooves. Variety of loft options for great wide sole short game shots what most golfers want. Better performance than other wedges with hi toe raw design. Micro-grooves are individually cut in between grooves, which maximize spin on partial shots. A proprietary heat treatment is applied to the impact area which doubles the durability of the groove without impacting feel making it the most durable groove in golf. The process is only complete when every groove on every golf wedge head is 100% inspected for conformity to the rules of golf. These Vokey wedges are great addition to your golf bag.

What are the most important aspects about your new wedge set?

Golf Wedge

Wedges are specialized golf clubs that should be thought of individually and as a group. Your wedges should be properly loft gapped to make sure they each travel a different distance and have nice turf interaction with golf ball. Many times golfers will blend their set with pitching wedge into gap wedge, sand wedges, and lob wedge for a complete 4-wedge setup. Some golfers only choose pitching wedge and sand wedge it depend of their style and turf conditions. Typical mixes include 45 degree pitching wedges, 50 degree gap wedges, 55 degree sand wedge or 58 degrees, and 60 degrees lob wedges. It is also common to have gaps of 46, 50, 54, and 60 degrees of loft angle. Sand wedge and lob wedge often have the highest lofts 58, 60 degrees and 64 to increase the shot making option. Both lob and sand wedge have similar usage. Gap wedge is there to fil the gap between pitching and sand wedge also the loft angle of gap wedge is between pitching and sand wedge.

The second most important thing to get right with your wedges is the bounce and grind. The bounce option is how much angle is created with the leading edge when the club head is resting neutrally on the ground. This angle should be selected based on the kind of conditions you play on and your style of swing for better turf interaction. As a general rule, diggers, or high handicappers players with steeper angles of attack, will be better suited with higher degrees of bounce. Sweepers, or players with neutral and positive attack angles will choose lower bounce options. Mid handicappers mix their bounce and sole grind options.

Pitching Wedge

The grind and partnered shaft and grip should all be built to fit every swing you will make with a golf wedge. Higher lofts tend to have more complex grind shapes and offer more versatility for opening and closing the club face. Wedge shafts are usually softer in flex than your iron shafts and many players choose a heavier grind to help retain feel on smaller shots with shorter swings.

Distance or Forgiveness?

Sand Wedge

Wedges must be workable from any lie. However, recently cavity back wedges have been designed that enable golfers to get more out of each swing. With more low handicappers and high handicappers players than ever selecting larger cavity-style iron heads, blending a cavity backed design may make more sense. Low handicappers golfers that have smaller profile irons will likely still be drawn to the traditional wedges such as the Vokey wedge SM8’s.

How do I know when I have found my best fit?

Start with full shots full swing and get each of your best golf wedges flying the right distances. Start with your pitching wedge and work up to the most loft and bounce angle you feel comfortable using. Many amateur high handicappers players will be advised to end at 58 degrees of loft in a lob wedge and at most 60. Once your lofts have been sorted, check the bounce wedges and grind combinations to ensure that you can hit all the shots you will need depending on where you play golf. Finish by combining a shaft and grip with your new wedge that allows you to deliver the club more consistently and gives you confidence.

Wedge Components

Conclusion:

Building a set of best golf wedges for your game takes some careful planning and experimenting. There are now more options for golfers of all handicaps, skill levels, and swing speeds than ever before. The use of three different multi-material cavity backed designs has given more options with four sole grinds options to more players. You can find forged wedges with wide sole helping you keep shots from deep rough. Other wedges can differ by their purpose, loft options and material. you can find high toe with wide sole grind options models that increase spin. You should seek for the ones that often have four sole grinds, progressive center of gravity, good turf interaction with consistent contact and trajectory control. As we said best golf wedges are considered as short game clubs that affect performance. Some irons have smart sole grind, feel balancing technology, rotex face technology, ultizip grooves, and tour chrome brushed steel or aged copper for better turf interaction and full swing shots. Most companies and golfers experts will recommend you change your wedges after 75-100 rounds of golf or your forged clubs, even sooner if you practice often. Upgrading your wedges can be a great way to quickly improve your short game and be on your way to shooting lower scores with better turf interaction this season. Most of them have carbon steel in them and laser etched face. Mid handicappers often will use best golf wedges as the high handicappers. Mid handicappers too will like loft options for solid feel, crisp contact and more control. PGA tour and better skill level player they will need different loft options . They already have more control and crisp contact, also they are good with better spin and find consistency easier. Low handicappers and better players also tend to hit more open face shots with high moi. While high handicappers want game improvement golf wedges with smart sole and better contact. Best wedge for your golf bag will help you with your short game shots. Go hit some for yourself and start getting up-and-down more often!
